1. Gotta be OK Computer for me. It was their first album that I heard and I'm still amazed by it. The transition they made from the shallow-er songs from the Pable Honey era (and even more so the On A Friday songs) to the deep, beautiful songs of OKC is brilliant. They touched upon it a bit with The Bends (particularly with songs like Street Spirit and Talk Show Host) but I just think it was on OK Computer that they hit the nail on the head. Don't get me wrong, I love The Bends and I think there are some great songs on Pablo such as You, Anyone Can Play Guitar and the amazing Blow Out (which I very much envy Japan for getting recently ), I just think they had developed alot more after as musicians/Thom as a writer etc after them. Of course it didn't exactly help their tag of being 'depressing' amongst alot of people xD For fans of OKC who don't have the Airbag/How Am I Driving EP I would very much recommend it, it's got some great songs on it such as Pearly and Polyethlene as well as their first proper instrumental.

I really do think Amnesiac is under-rated, sure it's got things stuff like Pulk/Pull and Hunting Bears which can be harder to get into that other songs and the not-as-awesome-as-the-live-version Like Spining Plates. But it's also got absolute beauties like Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army?, Dollars And Cents (which as with other people, I did really get into till I saw them play it live after which I began adoring it) and the Jonny Greenwood written glory of Life In A Glasshouse with the amazing trumpet work of Humphrey Lyttelton. And on the more rocking side there's also Packt Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box (although that really gets more rocking in the live situation with more emphasis on the brilliant bassline), I Might Be Wrong and Knives Out. Of course Kid A is even better which in my opinion Treefingers as the only weak track and I often put it up with the great musical changes, not quite as significant as Joshua Tree --> Achtung Baby obviously, but still great. Not to mention Morning Bell is way better than Morning Bell/Amnesiac

Hail To The Thief I would personally rank lower than OKC, Kid A and Amnesiac. I love pretty much all the songs on it (with Backdrifts being the one I still have trouble liking), I just think it all feels very rushed and yet feels like the album drags on a bit and has this slight sense of confusion as to whether they want it to make it a Rock album or more Alternative and electronic like the previous 2 which kind of makes it kind of a bit full on for my taste. But as songs I think they are great, even if The Gloaming could do with the extra bassline Colin plays when they play it live which really improves the song alot

And finally In Rainbows, which I agree with the consensus that it's great. I liked the download so much that I went out and bought the CD so I could hear it at a far nicer 320kb/s and as I think they need thanks for making such a good album which in this case was respresented by buying something I already had on my iTunes xD 15 Step has to be one of the coolest songs I've heard in a while and I just love how it feels almost sort of lighter hearted and cheerful which after HTTT I think was really needed. I see it like how ATYCLB was after Pop in a strange way. Not to mention it seems to be their most accessible album, it really seems to have made them alot more fans who found the other albums too daunting and dare I say it 'depressing'

So to finally get to an actual point, I'd say it depends on what sort of thing your into as to which album you download, with In Rainbows, Pablo Honey or The Bends being the safest bets in my opinion, or if you want to take the plunge and delve into the sort of song they can achieve and feelings they can create I'd say go for Kid A, Amnesiac or potentially Hail To The Thief which treads on the line inbetween the rockier, easier sound and the more experimental and dark sound. Of course this is all in my opinion and it could all be the opposite in your eyes (or ears in this case). Ok essay over I'll shut up now
  2. Well, I got to admit that I got into RH quite late this summer after listening to the BBC Radio Concert from April 1st.

Although I have "In Rainbows" for one year, I've never paid much attention to this fabulous album.

So since august 2008 I explored dime and the usual bootleg sites, meanwhile there are some gems in my collection that are absolutely top of the pops:

1997 Glastonbury [SBD], 2006-08-15 Avenches [SBD MAtrix] + 2008-08-20 White River Amphitheater

Their music really goes straight into my heart. Listen to "Street Spirit" and you know what i mean.

Like U2 their strength intensifies when performing live!

  3. I'm a KId A guy. National Anthem, Morning Bell, Idioteque, Optimistic, just to name a few. I would start with The Bends and OKC first though. I have to agree with Nick, and stick up a bit for Amnesiac though. It took me years to get into it, but now it is one I really like. Pyramid Song alone makes it worth a listen. But just like U2, I can find something to enjoy in all of their albums.
  4. I was at one of the Victoria Park gigs this summer and the In Rainbows material was just superb, as was the entire gig itself. I was also at the Glatonbury 97 show where OK Computer was the newest album, and it's still the one as far as I'm concerned. While Oasis were happy to release the flaccid and bloated Be Here Now, Radiohead had OK Computer to put out and that about says it all. Oasis were satisfied with an arrogant, coked up and boring retread of (What's The Story?) Morning Glory, while Radiohead took the basic sound and feel of The Bends and just amped it up, expanded, deepened and enriched it, making something truly astonishing. That they've not tried to just release it since under a different name (again, fingers point to Noel Gallagher and his mob) says so much for them. Radiohead are probably the most innovative mainstream rock band in the world (sorry...) and while their later works (Kid A, Amnesiac) may have got people's backs up (a la Zooropa and Pop), they're not a band for sitting still - the search for what's new is what drives them. Also, if you have a chance, go and see them on this tour; I've heard that it may well be their last...
  5. Its got to be OK Computer for me ,,,mind i was stuck in the desert near the Oman for 12 weeks when i was in the army armmed only ( musicly) with radioheads The Bends and so i played that a lot,but secoundly is In Rainbows
  6. Bump

Amnesiac grew a lot on me lately...and it might even have become my favorite
I just love Packed Like Sardines..., You And Whose Army?, Dollars & Cents, Life In A Glasshouse, I Might Be Wrong, Morning Bell and Knives Out
    I finally "got" this one
  7. .....................but I'm a Creep.........................

I love this song since long ago, and I'm now getting a bit into this people. They're maybe a little too strange sometimes (Pyramid Song? LOL, that song is the weirdest I ever heard), but nice anyway. I've just bought The Bends in CD, 'cause Pablo and OK are in vynil at home (father was very into them some years ago)... I like them.

Wow! Way to resurrect an old (but great) thread.

OK Computer ranks slightly ahead of Kid A. Then pick either The Bends or In Rainbows. Amnesiac is solid (but Morning Bell/Amnesiac is awful) while Hail To The Thief has its moments but is a bit of a mess. Pablo Honey (much like Boy) was a good first effort but much better music was to come,
  9. i saw ok computer for 10 buks the other day so i bought it, id never listened to them apart from creep. so far im liking it Paranoid Android is AMAZING
  10. Definetly for me its Ok Computer, one of the best Albums of any band I think! In Rainbows and Bends are great too.
  11. I've listened to Radiohead for a while, but I stopped.
I always become depressive from their music, especially from Paranoid Android.

    Sorry for bad English.
