In case you haven't noticed, Bono is a strange man lol

  2. True, you would think he would know better, especially seeing as his mother died of a stroke, which means he has an increased chance of suffering one due to genetics, and the smoking is not going to help. And didn't his dad die from lung cancer?

Perhaps we can 'counter preach' to him about his smoking

I know it was Cancer, but I don't know if it was lung cancer. I thought his Mom died due to a Brain Hemorrhage, or is that the same thing as a stroke?

You have to remember that not everyone who goes to a U2 concert is a hardcore fan, and have heard his 'preaching' before.

The fact that Bono puts so much into his humanitarian efforts is highly commendably and is a point of difference between all the other bands out there. While it may not be cool, it makes me proud to be a U2 fan.

U2 would not be U2 without the activism, and Bono would definitely not be Bono, as Drew Carey points out:

"Do you want to see my wristband? It says, 'What would Bono do?' He's like Christ, I'm telling you. He's like Christ and Bob Dylan rolled into one."

Anyway by far my biggest gripe with Bono, is the deterioration in his voice during the past two tours.

Apparently this is due to his smoking.
I fail to understand why Bono who is one of the greatest singers of all time, continues to smoke, doesn't he know what smoking will do to his voice, and his health?

i think his voice is stronger than ever

  5. Absolutely no way is it stronger than before.

Compare the previous tours (before Pop) with Elevation / Vertigo, on Streets, for example. That said, the notes he did reach on Miss Sarajevo (on the 3rd and 5th leg) was amazing, and completely unexpected. The songs nowadays he writes just don't need those vocals - not that they're overly tough, either (think Walk On, Beautiful Day, Yahweh, Window In The Skies....).

But maybe this next tour, we'll be surprised. The little falsettos from the Nelson Mandela show were damned fantastic and proof the vocals are slowly coming back. In contrast, the recent When Love Comes To Town performance with BB King was shite. Absolutely crap, no emotion or vocal efforts.
  6. Does anyone else think his smoking is a problem? Concerning his voice at least

  7. In general I dislike people who smoke, but hey, I can't hate these 3/4 guys I don't think (and hope) Edge and Larry smoke that much, and I think Bono isn't smoking as much as during the Zoo TV/Pop period. I think by times he smokes a cigar and that's fine. It's their own choice. If Bono's voice will get damaged for ever I will not be pleased.
  8. Wasn't his smoking a big problem on the Elevation Tour. Didn't he have to have surgery on his nose/mouth /throat?

I found this pic on the net, I think its from Anton Corbijn's book (U2 & I). Can anyone translate?

I think it's a bit harsh to say you dislike people who smoke...

I'm more of a 'hate the sin, not the sinner' type of guy - at the end of the day, it's his lifestyle choice, and if he wants to smoke, he'll smoke, none of us have the right to tell him, Edge or Larry otherwise. It seems like an apparent contradiction in terms that he's a lead singer and yet he smokes, but at the end of the day, it's his call. If I were in a position to tell him either which way, I'd hope he'd give it up because it's just a great way to kill yourself, but I'm not so I'm not gonna stir up a fuss about it. Smoking doesn't make someone a bad person, but to me it's just a pretty stupid bloody thing to do.

Well it's not that I hate people who smoke but I think it's a very bad habit... an awful habbit to have. But as I said it's their own choice and they can smoke if they want to, but not in my accompany.
  11. I can of course

    "Los Angeles, 2001
On the aeroplane, road to Denver. On that part of the tour, Bono had some voice problems. Therefore, he underwent a treatment with aerosoles."
