While the US's history is far from spotless, most of their shortfalls are the result of well meaning (though misguided) intentions.

I don't think you can put their actions in the same boat as the Soviets, Cambodia,Burma the Central/South American dictatorships etc or the atrocities committed in the Balkans.

  2. The one god that he's always professed to believe in. He's not pointing to those symbols (and thus their respective religions) and saying they have different gods, he's pointing to them and making the point that those 3 major religions all have roots in the same history, and that they ultimately follow the same god.

Nothing to worry about then lol.

As far as I know, Islam recognizes and accepts the previous prophets and holy books (keep in mind we consider Jesus Christ to be a prophet), but the rules aren't all the same. All islamic rules are to be extracted from the Quran. Not all scholars follow this...many of them mix up stuff with the Quran, which has turned to all these terrorist groups, or as an example, the Salman Rushdie fatwa.

Now, in Quran, there is this verse, which says that there is nothing worse than taking a life, killing a person, the only situation where you might do it is if it is a punishment for murder or someone who causes "terror in the land". The next verse says that the families of victims have the right to ask for this punishment, but it persuades them to forgive the criminal and let him/her live.

    thank you for clarifying

  5. thats right - they're afraid of the people rising up....

Jesus Christ, nevertheless, surely died for us

    Agnostic?

so you believe that part of the bible is true, but not all of it?

The Old Testament is a mixture of myth, legend and actual history, not all of it actually happened, its the underlying meaning that matters.
God has never demanded human sacrifice, and I think he wrote on some tablets something about killing...

    Human Sacrifice?
Isaac and Jesus - but we all know how those turned out...

and the tablet thing was 'murder', not killing - there are differences....

Uh....If you actually study even the basics of the 3 major religions, you'll know that it is not really possible that they follow the same god.
