I have, but I think others have already put forward the basic argument I was following (and in my view, of course it's possible - the god of Abraham/Ibrahim wouldn't change just because his descendants differ in attitude, he/she/it would still be one and the same thing, but it's people's views that change things, i.e. a car is a car, but it's our understanding of cars which determine whether we think it's a good car or not). And I agree with Casper and Mark, this is a politics thread, not religion...

  3. I also agree, this is not a religious discusion. I'm agnostic for anyone keeping tabs.
  4. Why re-opening or bumping a topic that will fall soon, when we can perfectly speak about it here?

  5. Going off-topic? People get reminded to stay on-topic in other threads, so what sets this topic apart?
  6. true, but religion has interfered and influence politics ever since their has been politics ...
  7. In my opinion, talkling about Religion in a General Politics chatting thread is not going off-topic, at least not that much... And doing it like that, we can keep all "thoughts" discussion in just one place.
  8. Okay Sergio...you asked for it...my apologies in advance, I get carried away easily when speaking about Islam...

IMHO too much country's let themselve lead by self-made religions. God didn't create human, human created God. I don't believe there would be a God/Yahweh/Buddah/Allah/whatever he is called who tells people to blow themselves and they get 100 virgins in heaven as reward.

Yep, there wouldn't be, as I mentioned before, this is one of those major misinterpretations in the Islamic world, and those who have misunderstood it have caused even bigger misunderstandings of Islam in the rest of the world...the whole Jihad issue is too abused for different intentions.

I don't believe in a religion which keeps telling that we were from Adam & Eva and which says that sex is for devil people.

Which religion says that? I'm just asking out of curiosity, I really don't know.

I don't believe in a religion which says the Moses held his stick over an ocean and it split open.

Why? What political use could such a story as you call it have, and why wouldn't you believe in it?

You can't rule a country on a 1000-year old book. You can't rule a country on a few bed time story's. You can't rule the world on things which might have happened ages ago.

Agreed...I personally would rather have secularism. I don't believe in imposing a certain religion or group's beliefs on everyone. But I have my own beliefs, I extract them from the Quran, it gives me some basic beliefs, based on which I am able to decide about everything else. Therefore I'm not basing my decisions on "a 1000-year old book" (1400 years in this case).

No worries mate, I'm not offended by anyone, I'm used to misunderstandings of Islam...seeing some comments still break my heart, but nothing offends.

Than I suggest we create a General General Topic, since we already have dozens of 'General blabla Topics'

We can relate hundreds of subjects to politics, the question is where to put a hold on it.
  10. Vote for new name for this topic: "Religious nuts / political fanatics"

Yep, a very small group of terrorists ruins everything for other Islam people. I don't see the Islam as a bad religion, but thanks to those terrorist less educated people might think that every Middle East-person is a terrorist.

Catholic church (btw they don't literally say that sex is for devil people, but they do think it's bad thing)

I wouldn't know how you could use it in a political debate, I'm just trying to make a point lol
But if someone really wants I think they could certainly use it...
And I don't believe in it because I also don't believe in Harry Potter and Santa Claus...
But because I don't believe in it certainly doesn't mean that other people shouldn't believe in it.

Exactly. Those books (Bible, Quran, etc.) are good guide lines, but you shouldn't take it all literally. To be honest I've never completely read any of those books, but I do know the important stories. It's practicly impossible to believe EVERYTHING a religion says, so make your own religion. Take the best parts of every religion, believe what you truly believe. And not just: 'Oh, Bible/Quran says so, so it's true.' Cause that leads to Believe, as our favorite band likes to say....

And are we now truly gonna discuss whether Religion is a part of Politics?
  12. Seems we agree on everything then mark.

I believe that religion is used (abused actually) by politicians as a means to force people in a certain direction or to ....let's say control their mind, shut them up.
But the whole thing differs from country to country and politician to politician. In our country, it's used A LOT...politicians lose their jobs over a not so religiously correct comment...who emphasizes that comment? The opposition...this is just one example.
