1. a couple of my suggestions

The Who - Baba O'Riley or My Generation
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody or Radio Ga Ga
Coldplay - Clocks or Speed of Sound
Bruce Springsteen - The Rising or Radio Nowhere
Radiohead - Creep or Karma Police
The Police - Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic or Every Breathe You Take
Sting - Englishman in New York or Desert Rose
R.E.M. - Losing My Religion or Supernatural Superserious
Moby - Porcelain or Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit or Come As You Are
Bon Jovi - It's My Life or Living On A Prayer
    Travis - Sing or Side
New Radicals - Mother We Just Can't Get Enough or You Get What You Give
The Beatles - Let It Be or Sgt. Pepper's
Muse - Hysteria or Supermassive Black Hole
Keane - Bend And Break or Nothing In My Way
Oasis - Wonderwall or Live Forever (freaking love this one)

what I would like everyone to do is to add Bittersweet Symphony as it's the anthem of the 90's and life. And not to forget, f**k Andrew Oldham lol
  2. Blur? Bloc Party? Arcade Fire?

Please don't use Creep as the representation from Radiohead... there are so many better Radiohead songs.
  3. a few suggestions (the best from my iTunes) from yours truly:

The Who - My Generation or The Real Me
The Rolling Stones - Jumpin Jack Flash or Satisfaction
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run (Live 1975 Hammersmith) or Thunder Road
Led Zeppelin - Rock 'n' Roll or Immigrant Song
Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (two songs, not the album lol)
    The Beatles - Revolution or
Guns 'n' Roses - Sweet Child of Mine
Aerosmith - Dream On or Walk this Way
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long, Thunderstruck, Highway to Hell, or It's a Long Way to the Top
Kiss - Rock 'n' Roll All Nite

    theres so much lol...

Here's my idea, since I work as a radio host for my school, we like to mix it up....slow song, fast song, medium speed, fast, slow, etc.

12 songs, 6 by U2? Streets, Vertigo, The Fly, WOWY, One and Still Haven't Found. Why Still Haven't Found? While it's not liked here, people love it in the UK. It's above Streets there, and it's a classic 80s rocker. Why not Bad? It's too long for the radio. We'll get elminated right off. In the words of Pete Townshend "rock songs are 2 minutes 50 seconds by tradition".

Bruce, Coldplay, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who and David Bowie for the win.

Bruce - 1 70s song, Born to Run should kick ass
Coldplay - Viva la Vida pisses off rock fans because when they play live it's a backing track. I'd go with Yellow since it rocks the most.
The Beatles - so many songs.......which one? Go with their early stuff
The Rolling Stones - 60s Blues Rock - Jumpin Jack Flash
The Ramones - 70s Punk - Blitzkrieg Bop (Punk started by Who influnce)
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (gotta have ONE cover song here for differenciation)

    IMO, but battle it out
  4. it's 9:00 over there.....not much time folks.

    Streets - U2
    Still Haven't Found - U2
Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin
    Vertigo - U2
    Helter Skelter - The Beatles
    One - U2
Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones
    The Fly - U2
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
    Yellow - Coldplay
Who Are You - The Who
With or Without You - U2

    any thoughts?

    U2 defined the 80s + 90s + 00s

I covered the 70s with Led Zeppelin and The Who (influences)
I covered the 60s with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones (essential rock gods)
I covered the 90s with Nirvana and the 00s with CP
  5. Very cool idea. I think this is best:
    6 U2 songs:
    -Streets
    - The Fly
    - BD
    - Bad
    - One
    - Kite
Why these 6? Streets and The Fly were the winners of the SS, One and BD are the most famous songs and Kite and Bad are two fan favorites (see ranking of U2start-favorite songs)

Then the thoughest 6: other artists. I think we should combine older, U2-influencing bands with artists who are influenced by U2.
    So, I'd go for:
    - The Beatles (not into them, others should chose song )
    - Bob Dylan - Knockin On Heavens Door (They covered it, so very representive)
    - Coldplay - Clocks (obviously their best song)
    - David Bowie - The Jean Genie (could easily be written by Bono, snippeted it before The Fly)
    - REM - Everybody Hurts
    - Lou Reed - Satellite Of Love

Looks like a good list to me...especially who aren't too deep into U2...
  6. I think Pride belongs to the list. I know we all don't like it now because it's overplayed, but we must remember that it was U2's first big radio hit and this is a radio competition.

    My list so far

    1. U2- Where The Streets Have No Name
    2. The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
    3. U2 - Beautiful Day
    4. Coldplay - Clocks
    5. U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking or
    6.Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
    7. U2 - Pride (In The Nam of Love)
    8. Queen - Radio Ga Ga
    9. Sting - Desert Rose
    10. U2 - With Or Without You
    11. R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts
    12. U2 - One

I'm not sure...I need 7 U2 songs 'coz I want The Fly to be there as well
  7. Okay...the order of my list:
    1. Beautiful Day
    2. Bowie - The Jean Genie
    3. The Fly
    4. CP - Clocks
    5. Bad
    6. REM - Everybody Hurts
    7. Beatles - Helter Skelter
    8. One
    9. Dylan - Knockin On Heavens Door
    10. Lou Reed - Satellite Of Love OR Radiohead - Lucky (could be written by Bono)
    11. Streets
    12. Kite
  8. and remember that it has to be posted by the forum administrator or moderator
we have 24 hours so I hope America comes up with something while we Zeuropeans will be sleeping
  9. I think we should include at least one song by the Killers (eg. Mr Brightside) and Coldplay (eg. Viva La Vida), the Brits adore them.
And Beatles goes without saying (maybe Lennon's Imagine as well). Maybe also 'Dancing in the Dark' by Springsteen, it has a Euro flavour and still sounds fresh today. And either Oasis' Wonderwall or Don't Look Back in Anger would give us an edge. I don't know whether the Brits like Bob Dylan as much as the Americans, and he's not exactly fresh, but if so, perhaps either 'Blowin in the Wind', 'Like a Rolling Stone', 'Knocking On Heaven's Door' or 'All Along the Watchtower'

Perhaps we can include a one hit wonder as well, like 'Save Tonight' etc.

For the U2 selection, there is definitely not going to be Pride!

I'm assuming live versions aren't allowed, so we should pick the best sounding album tracks: (ie not choose tracks based on how they sound live, eg Ultraviolet). And probably stay away from the weirder and more obscure songs (eg Lemon), go for more radio friendly songs. (Bad is probably too long)

Do not rely solely on the list of U2start fan favourite songs.
    My suggestions:

    Definitely these:
    With or Without You
    One
    Beautiful Day

    Perhaps:
Vertigo or City of Blinding Lights
Where the Streets Have No Name
    Stay (which deserves wider exposue)
Mysterious Ways, EBTTRT, the Fly (not sure about this one, even the band thinks it's a bit dated)
    Sunday Bloody Sunday
    All I Want Is You
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (which will be better received if it was US radio)
Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
Acrobat (if we want something edgy)
Maybe Discotheque (probably not, it might sound dated against all the modern dance/techno)

If we can submit live versions I suggest Ultraviolet and All Along the Watchtower.

PS: Kudos to Yuri for finding this, i'm suprised the Brits didn't notice.

I'm all for The Killers, but I don't know if anyone else is
