1. He was referring to their first performance at Slane Castle

Well yeah it's al pop music these days. And that's a pity. Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever get pop muzik.

True, but I believe it's just because it's their latest big single, and not really because people actually like the song better. While Vertigo is good, it isn't exactly one of U2's best songs, in my opinion.

But you didn't ask for their best song.

I'd say Pride / Sunday Bloody Sunday / With Or Without You for people of a certain generation.

Beautiful Day for the more modern generation. No doubt. Closely followed by Vertigo.

Most seem to know One now as a Mary J Bilge song

He was still referring to Out of Control, which granted was on Three lol, but they weren't playing Stories for Boys or Life On A Distant Planet, he was referring primarily to Out Of Control which was their first single - it was the first song which got them any kind of recognition whatsoever, minimal as it arguably was.

    Mary J. Bilge lol...

Perhaps, although I've got nothing against the version per se...I have to admit that One is one of the songs, like I said earlier, that gets mentioned whenever I say I like U2, although not all the time is it because of the MJB version...

No. I asked for the song people in general think is best, which is exactly what I'm replying to.

  6. I see where you are coming from...U2's most popular song to date of the masses, including everyone. The only problem here is that people either hate U2 or love them. By 'popular' it means something that stood the test of time. Can you see Vertigo being played in 2015? A lot of people know the song One, since it is the best of the 90s.

That's not asking for the best...that's asking about popularity, two discernably different things.

  8. No, you asked for the song people in general think is most popular.

    Not the same.

  9. Beat me to it lol.....
  10. I'm siding with Dan on this one. I think that different generations are going to list songs that define "U2 hit" in different ways. I've noticed that a lot of the people replying that "Beautiful Day" and "Vertigo" are big U2 hits are generally in the "20 and under" crowd. When I first saw the question, I immediately thought "Streets," and am somewhat surprised that no one else (besides Harry mentioning it as a great musical song) thinks so. Dan and I might be considered a part of the "older" generation here on U2start, and therefore we go back to the earlier classics off of Joshua Tree and War. That's my 2 cents.

Right now in Australia, Beautiful Day is clearly the most played and arguably the most popular U2 song followed by One. Probably because it's uplifting and suits nearly every occasion.

People aroud my age and older would throw JT's trio of hits and Pride into the mix.

I don't know how big Vertigo is elsewhere but it hasn't stood the test of time down here I would argue.
