  4. I'm sure it will either get thrown out, or more likely, settled out of court and we'll never hear of it again. To ask for a percentage of all the sales of VLV is a bit much though...

    I don't see it as much since it is their lead single of this album (I think) and it was written by Satriani.

  10. I stand corrected...I thought he was asking for a profit of the album VLV, not just the song VLV. Quite a difference there!
  11. But here's my thoughts on the issue: Sure, they do sound similar. The melody line and the guitar line are exactly the same for a few bars. But did Coldplay steal that? Can't really say, but you shouldn't be able to put a copyright on a few notes and claim it as your own. There's only so many keys and notes to chose from....

    Without knowing much Satriani stuff, if any (all that I have heard just sounds like 'feature length' solos and thus I have very little interest in his music - I do have some on my laptop though which I may get around to listening in a bit more detail), I agree - there are only so many notes and keys in the world, and however many times someone spins them around, there's gonna be similarities. Hell, listen to most of the original punk music movement, most of that sounds the same in so far as it's basic 3 chord tricks played really quickly and shouting over the top of it (alright, big sweeping generalisation but I'm just trying to make a point), but did anyone cause a song and dance over that?

    EDIT - I've listened to the Satriani track, and I can see the similarities in that melody part, but I think this comment on the video I found sums up my thoughts (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CMcjXo8ZuqE);

    PS - out of interest, why didn't he bring this up like however many months ago it was when Coldplay released the single if he actually felt they had plagiarised?
