Perhaps he has an album dropping in the near future.....

  2. lol, that'd be a laugh...I was having a look around 'cause I'm still awake (just downed a 1.5 litre bottle of Coke without thinking, still working off the sugar rush at half 3 in the morning lol!) and apparently Satriani filed the lawsuit a day after the single was released? If that's the case, fair play to him, but still, it seems very petty - a 3 note melody...it's like...I dunno...I don't know what to really add that would be a constructive contribution to the debate other than I prefer Viva La Vida to Satriani's instrumental lol...

yeah, you and me both. I've heard his name before, but it's just not my style. I'm sure there are members here though who are really into him.

Indeed indeed, I mean I've never taken to that kind of stuff, along with others like Yngwe Malmsteen etc. - it all seems very egotistical, like, hey I can play the guitar really fast, so here's an album of me doing it. The stuff I have does just seem like a jamming session recorded and bunged onto a CD...

All this talk about plagiarism has got me thinking, 'cause I remember one of my friends once claiming that U2 stole the riff to Vertigo from...who the hell was it?* Some Aussie band...and when I listened to the song he mentioned there was similarities, but who's to say whether they copied or not? And I mean, I was never sure whether anyone ever made anything of Bono (possibly) stealing the "touch me" part of Beautiful Day from a-Ha's "The Sun Always Shines On TV" or not? I remember he snippetted the aforementioned song when they played Oslo during the Vertigo tour, dunno whether that was a response to such claims or not...?

    * - the song my mate reckoned U2 had ripped off for Vertigo was Get Free by The Vines, although having listened to it again, I can see where he was coming from but it literally is a 2 note progression during the refrain/chorus...
  5. Now that we've completely hijacked this topic.....

Does U2 have a case that this song by The Raconteurs rips off the vocal line from "Fast Cars?"

  6. I see what you mean, but to be honest claiming they ripped off a melody would mean they're actually crediting that as singing...

Thing is that it is much more then 3 notes...and the chords are the same too. Also, Coldplay has always been getting ideas from U2 for instance...they have a whole history of lack or originality. Plus, Satriani owns coldplay.

    EDIT: just found this http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/joe-satriani-speaks-about-coldplay-lawsuit-185914

  8. Why do you still bother reading this topic if you hate the band so much?

Just bought tickets for 2 of the 3 german shows. There goes Christmas...

Just because I like Satriani and I have a point to make. I also don't like dishonest bands. Actually, I do. I like Oasis, but I admit that they are a cheap rip off band.
  10. Coldplay is not the first and not the last band to "borrow" from other artists. Oasis does it, U2 does it, even the Beatles did. So why smashing Coldplay now?

Lets smash all of them!! they deserve it! By the way, which U2 song is stolen? I didn't know about it.

  12. None is "stolen" but you can easily find similarities. Examples?

Beautiful Day --> a-ha - The Sun Always Shines On TV

Vertigo --> Sonic Youth - Dirty Boots/ Ramones - Pinhead/ Joy Division - Sound Of Music/ The Supremes - You Keep Me Hanging On

HMTMKMKM --> T-Rex - Children of the Revolution
