are we listening to the same ones? (reuploaded, previous link was dead) http://rapidshare.com/files/177737907/Bens_Beach_clips_2008_eqd.zip

While it is hard to make out lyrics especially in the verses (though some have managed to), they give you a very good idea of the structure and overall sound of the song. And in Beach Clip 1 (Unknown Caller) you can clearly hear most of the Edge's solo at the end, and you can make out most of Breathe, certainly enough to know whether it's their best song ever.

Whereas the U2.com videos are very much teasers, the Clips offer much more information. Though of course they aren't listenable songs, ie I don't have them on my playlist.

As for concerns that they spoil the album, the quality is nowhere near as good as the finished product, so I doubt they will detract from anyones enjoyment of the final songs.

It also helps if you listen to them lying down in the dark, helps you tune out the other noises.
Try it if you don't believe me.

no one is specifically saying that the beach clips don't offer anything...I think most of us are just reserving actual judgment until the actual songs are available.....to be listened to formally and properly. It just keeps coming across as if you think you have heard the songs and have some kind of merit to speak about them before anything truly substantial is out. It's fine if you think they are indicative of the actual versions, but I think most people, including myself, don't agree....so I say save your reviews of the songs for once the albums out

I never tried (or will try) to review songs based on the Beach Clips, that's plain silly.
But ignoring what they offer is also silly. Especially since some people would rather hear the spin coming from the band/producers. (Like Andrew who posted below who from the hype thinks they're going to be 11 WOWY or Ones on the album,...that, I am afraid, is setting yourself up for disappointment)

With regards to how indicative they are of the actual versions, I think the differences between the final album versions and the beach clips of songs, will be more like the early mixes of Yahweh/All Because of You rather than the difference between Native Son and Vertigo. From what we know of the songs from Q and others, and recording dates of the different sessions, I think the clips are from the Fez sessions. And therefore are quite representative of songs we know came from those sessions ie. Unknown Caller, Get Your Boots On, Breathe.

  3. same here if they r 11 f-ing mind blowing songs ala WOWY, one etc theni will be more then happy, and id probably rather that then say 15 songs but one or 2 of them being below the others in terms of quality. hopefully they put some of em on the singles, is that what b-side means????

just a difference in opinion dude, and that's cool...and I wouldn't call what comes from the band/producers "spin"...if they believe it's the best....I'm willing to believe it too....they should know...but I know the other side to that argument

ive listened to the beach clips but im gona stop now, they dont dissapoint me, and i really doubt their album will either.
  6. Don't forget that the song-summaries posted in Q are also based on raw material.

  7. Very true, hence why I'm inclined to not bother with the beach clips again or take the Q article as the gospel truth - until the album comes out, I've no particular interest in listening to them again. And yeah, Lyndon, I was SLIGHTLY exaggerating but it's not going to change my approach to the issue lol, I'm just not particularly bothered in any way at all to listen to them again for reasons that I've said a few times now.

So, let's quit the beach clips discussion then. If you want to listen to them, listen..if you don't, don't do it. Simple.

It's time for a proper setlist and cover-art.

Hah, if only it were that easy my friend! But yeah, a bit of artwork to give us an impression of what's going on would be cool...and who knows, the Q article could indeed have published the finalised tracklisting?

It certainly read that way. When they did the same for Pop, ATYCLB and HTDAAB they were accurate.
  11. Ok, fine we'll discuss things like the tracklisting...much more interesting...

Can we at least figure out if clip 5 is Simon & Garfunkel sounding (and therefore winter)? Someone said they would listen to it and see.

BTW has anyone spotted cover art in the Q article yet? and is anyone going to scan the mag and post?

And what's the contingency plan in case of a leak? Do we listen to it? Or wait until the official release?

    You're quite demanding....you know that?

    - It is S&G sounding, but S&G's music also differs from song to song..further on, track 5 is the worst sounding beach clip and not a final product.
    - Someone will eventually scan Q, just be patient....and grateful if someone does.
    - If there's a leak, we can have dozens of plans, but anyone will decide for themselves if they want to listen to it or not. We can't stop them.
