1. U2 could do something pretty unusual with additional material left over from the NLOTH sessions and put out a series of E.P.s.
Some U2 songs tend to to develop when they are toured (Dirty Day, Please,Walk On etc) and become regarded by many as the definitive versions and in some instances have prompted the band to rerecord them for release.
So....what if the band selected a dozen unfinished gems to take on tour and develop during rehearsals, a slot could then be allocated into each show where a new song could be played (on a rotational basis).
Within six months of touring they would without a doubt have the new tunes nailed and ready for the studio. As most of the cities that the band touch down in have recording studios, they could record and mix four new tunes for an E.P. or three new studio recordings and one original live recording taken from the tour.
Alternatively, they could could record each of the songs individually during tour stops and give the whole collection the spirit of a road album.
That would give the fans three new releases to look forward to and Larry could have his album of twelve new songs released as quickly as he had hoped (albeit in an unusual format).
As a final touch, the E.P.s could be part of a progressive set ( think of the image made up from the first four singles from Achtung Baby) and sold at the shows aswell as itunes and the usual outlets.
  2. If this happens i'll chop off my big toe and post a video of me trying to walk afterwards. Too much effort and work for the U2 boys on top of soundchecking, travelling and actually gigging when on tour.
  3. Yeah, I know what your saying and it was wishful thinking. Although they have stated that they would like to put put out a live album of original material which would be easier.
  4. As interesting as it is, it is a lot of effort for them while they're doing all that other stuff. Why not release a whole album of demos after the album's release sometime later in the year - like on Unreleased and Rare, except the NLOTH sessions. So each album could have five or so songs, stick it on iTunes or Amazon and release two or three, maybe with one or two remixes per release. I like the idea!

My original thoughts were a little more extravagant - release a 15-disc set of sessions from Boy to NLOTH, over the course of the tour and following years, and have one shoddy DVD. Maybe even 25 or 30 discs or if you wanted to reach really high, 45-60 CDs worth alongside all the remastered video clips. Get the entire collection out and Larry would have his 12 song album in no time. 450+ original songs over the next five or so years - I like that idea. They've got more than enough - ATYCLB counts for 100+ of those alone. We don't need another Greatest Hits - we need Ultimate Collection. Maybe 100 discs worth in a huge box with unreleased pro-shots to count for 20 or so discs, because U2 might not want to have everyone hearing how bad some of the demos are.

We've had...maybe less than 40 demos released officially. Time for more, and not with new vocals. Just release them as they are - U2 and Universal would make a killing. Otherwise they're only gonna leak one day or sit in the vaults gathering dust.

Now thatz what I call WISHFUL THINKING .

Don't get me wrong, but I don't like this idea. To me this would kinda sound like they're selling out. And 25 - 60 CDs ?!? No chance if you ask me.
If they would want to release demos and stuff, then why didn't they put more of them onto the re-releases of Boy and co ? I think they thought 'god, the other demos are a pain to hear, we cannot release them!" .

Regarding your example with the ATYCLB-songs: Also take into consideration that you don't know if those "100+" songs actually are really songs . I guess most of them are just work-in-progress versions, similar to the Achtung Baby Outtakes. And I doubt that there's a high interested so that it would be worth the effort to release it all. Also, is this 100+ statement from Bono ? If so, then you should reduce it to maybe 40 'real' songs, because we all know how Bono likes to exagerrate.

However, in theory I absolutely LOVE Zooropean's "idea" but yeah, I also think it's too much an effort for them, even if they would love to. But who knows, maybe the boys keep something exceptional in their baggage to be released when on tour... another EP during the tour would be great indeed. Or even smth like Zooropa was....but that would be wishful thinking again.
  6. R.E.M. made New Adventures in Hi-Fi in that exact manner. The result is stunning - but I can't see a band like U2 doing that.

New Adventures.. is stunning and sadly, under-rated.

From the sound of things, U2 have enough material for a 2nd album already.
Time off between tour legs could be used to mix and refine that material... or record any subsequent idea ala "Zooropa".

From all that I've heard and read... that is highly possible. Time will tell.
  8. It would be great, but, for both ideas, there's no chance they would do it.
And Gerard, I'll remind you saying that
