Stop worrying and wait for the actual album to come out/single to come out. Even if it is "Get on your boots, sexy boots..." Big deal? Sure it's not as intense as SBS or Pride. But it will still be good music. People change, Bono might not be focusing on writing as much music about war and polotics and world issues these days, even if he's more caught up in it then ever. Look at their situation when War came out, they needed a hard-hitting album that people would take things away from. They knew if they didn't come up with something spectacular they'd be done for. Same goes with UF, JT. RnH wasn't a critically acclaimed album, but the fans stll loved it. And as for serious lyrics, look at AB and Zooropa. A lot of people on this forum (including me) hold those two albums in their "U2 top 5 albums list". They're lyrics aren't serious at all. Same with Pop, I mean c'mon, the playboy mansion? Mofo? Those songs are still great. Bottom line is, everyone needs to stop worrying, and relax a bit.

Like Dan, I disagree about AB and Pop, the lyrics are dark as anything, but I think it's more a case of defining between 'playful' and 'serious', because as opposed to something like Wire which is, to me, darkly serious, something from AB or Pop (I can't give a particular example because the mind is wandering right now lol) is playfully dark, if this makes any sense. That's not a given rule, but I think it's more suited to the task in hand than just saying that AB and Pop lack severity, lyrically speaking.

Anyway, sorry for that bit of sneaky off-topicness, back on-topic...

If that wasn't official, I'd be *coughing* in that direction lol...

    Now THAT's on topic

anyways, for a real back on topic comment, I was watching that bit of Here is What Is (YouTube), the song at 2:55, I can't get any of what Bono is singing,...but the song right after that, at 3:36, is the last word before he stops singing "Tripoli" or am I hearing wrong?!

  5. what I hear in the end is this: "...home...like it feels...like I know...in old Tripoli" ...I'm not the ear-man, so check it out and tell me what you hear!

  6. Kickoff in Spain, then Italy and Amsterdam. US leg late September/early October.

  7. Nice to hear they'll kick off the tour in Europe instead of America for a change - that is of course if the rumour is true. I've always been slightly envious of the tours almost always starting off in America first, before then heading eastward across the pond for further legs. Maybe this time the European start will get American appetites whetted like ours have been in the past. Another plus is that when the tour does get Stateside, you'll be getting a more polished show etc.
