I have heard nothing on radio 1 as yet......and Chris Moyles is a huge U2 fan!

Yea I reckon it will be Monday morning on the Chris Moyles Show if the 19th is true, hope so, will be on my birthday. I remember Chris Moyles really milking it when he had the first play of the Vertigo single. Or maybe it will be a Terry Wogan exclusive on Radio 2.

Beach clips don't mean anything. Lyrics change throughout the recording and mixing process. All the way down to "A Sort of Homecoming" having lyric and vocal melody changed the day the album went for mastering.

Actually they do, and the RS article confirmed the lyrics in Beach Clip 3, so there is cause to worry. And it's highly unlikely they change choruses to songs at the last minute, verses maybe, but choruses are pretty locked down.

And all this fuss about the lyric not being serious enough is irrelevant, it doesn't matter if it's serious or playful or anything, it's a bad lyric, and one that the general public (and especially youth) aren't going to like, and will just reinforce the perception that their out of touch.

The problem is the lyric hasn't been handled in the way like a band like the Killers would handle it.
Even if he is singing about 'Sexy boots' the Killers or other new bands, would find a way to make it work, Bono however just makes it sound awkward, like when your Dad tries to use rap slang .

  3. You can't say either which way because we still don't know what's on the bloody album lol. Yes, ok, we've had 2 lists with similarities but for all we know, they could produce something very different. All the signs were that the song we know as 'Breathe' would be on the album judging by what we'd heard, and yet RS's article says it's been dropped (judging by Eno's tasty little comment lol), so we actually can't be sure of anything, that's the point some of us have been trying to make lol!

Again mistaken, the song dropped was Winter not Breathe. I doubt they would be able to do any more work with Eno, if they dropped the song that he believes was the best song he ever recorded with them.

And its fair to say that all the 4 Beach Clips will be on the album, Clip 5 which is apparently Winter may not, but we arent discussing it.

My bad, I meant Winter as opposed to Breathe, but that doesn't mean my line of argument has changed as a result lol.

I thought as much....I was just being pedantic

But are you seriously saying that the Q and RS list, and all the other info we've had mean nothing, and they're going to pull a completely new album with completely different songs out of thin air, five minutes before it goes off to be pressed?

Lyndon, pedantic?! Not in a week of Sundays!

To all intents and purposes, considering the amount of material they claim to have put together, I guess I am saying that lol. Essentially, I just think that it's more worthwhile to have no expectations and approach everything with a modicum of uncertainty as opposed to making assumptions without solid fact. I'm not saying that some of you have already heard WON'T be on the album proper, I'm just trying to make the point that we actually don't know anything lol - I just think many people are being a bit hasty in coming out with bold statements without having anything concrete coming from PM or U2 themselves. The Q and RS articles are all well and good but it still stands to reason that they're drawing on a certain amount of conjecture aswell as is evident by the differences in the supposed tracklistings. 'Tis why I find threads like predicting new setlists for the upcoming tour a bit odd because we've not even heard the first single yet, never mind the finalised album!

jesus, all we're trying to say is don't put all your faith in the beach clips lol
  9. I'll let you both battle it out for now, I'm off 'cause it's gone 2am and I've got to be up in 6 hours to take dogs to the vet lol.

    There will be blood

  10. I'm not, and never said I was, but I would rather believe the Beach Clips than the hype.

I just think the new info coming from Q and RS, allows us to better interpret what the Beach Clips are, and therefore what the album may sound like.

And interstingly, it would actually be better if people 'believed' the Beach Clips rather than believing the hype, because it prevents them from being disappointed when the single and album come out.

    Says you...

...I for one am not expecting anything (as in I have no pre-conceived ideas over what I expect/don't expect of the new album), and am entirely open-minded about it. And just because one has listened to the beach clips doesn't mean that you aren't going to be disappointed - I expect Norwich City to lose most (if not all) of the games they play, but it doesn't mean I'm not disappointed when they actually do lol, and the same idea is perfectly applicable to this scenario regarding the beach clips and the album-in-waiting. Equally, I'm not believing any of the hype, I'm just happy to wait for something official to come out from PM, the band, whoever - just someone who's word will actually mean something concrete as opposed to conjecture, theories and assumptions, however right they may seem to be.

PS - I'm not actually here, I am actually asleep at this point...(with regard to my previous post in this thread)

They say' an optimist can never be pleasantly surprised' which is why it's better to expect GYBO (in this case) to be a cause for concern, and then either be pleasantly surprised or indifferent in your feelings towards it when it finally comes out.
