I'm all for layered songs with deep meanings, but the lead single usually has to appeal to the public not only U2 fans, we all know how much they like their album sales. And why can't it be easy to listen to while retaining depth? that's not an easy thing to do for most bands, but not U2 - at least going from previous singles.
