1. In the end, it's all about taste and we can't discuss taste now do we?

  2. No, you may not discuss taste. Please refrain from doing so.

"I think it's crap". Easy done. Funnily enough, crap relating to music is this:

pertaining to or related to any mainstreem corprate music made in the last few years

So that means 90% of stuff on the radio falls into that category.

  3. Same way of expressing it...saying 'I think' says enough for that matter.

  4. In my humble, yet tastefully humble, generally true relating to my opinion, it's not my taste.
  5. Some like all U2 albums (or most) and some like particular eras.

I like all of the albums but I 'get it' when some have complaints about ATYCLB and HTDAAB. They are very good albums but they are imperfect. Both trail off a bit at the end. Both (in my humble view) would have benefitted from better tracklists and some substitution.

    ATYCLB:
Live, "New York" was fine but the album version? Not so much.

"Grace" isn't horrible but it isnt' spectacular either.

"Walk On" version with the hallelujahs is far better than the album version.

And the Biffco Mix and Tomb Raider mixes of Elevation are much better than the album version.

Love You Like Mad and Levitate, instead of Grace and New York would have improved the album, in my view.

    HTDAAB
One Step Closer? Crumbs...? Great ideas that didnt' quite 'do it'.

The guitars on Native Son are far more sharp, spikey and in that early U2 post-punk fashion than Vertigo ended up. (Although the lyric for Vertigo is better than Native Son).

Mercy and Are You Gonna Wait Forever, instead of One Step Closer and Crumbs, would have made the album stronger.

And the electric / rock approach of Xanax and Wine would have made the album rock more.

To me, and many I have met. ATYCLB isn't horrible but it isn't as consistent at The Joshua Tree. And to many I've met along the way, HTDDAAB isnt' as complete a rock record as Achtung Baby.

There great thing about computers? We can resequence the tracks or substitute which version we like better. I listen to 'my' versions more than the 'official' versions of those two albums.

It is great that you connect with the last two albums. ATYCLB and HTDAAB are not bad. They are very good.

But there are inconsistencies that many can see that show that they are not 200% in the area of classics like The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby.

Nothing wrong with Beautiful Day. But I dont' think that it defined the band.

Sorry, but I just really find it commical when people make their own versions of U2 albums. There is a reason why U2 choose to put certain tracks on each album. They are the ones that make the music, so I will take their word for it that they know what they are doing and they know what sounds best. You guys fall in love with these B-sides like they are the greatest thing in the world. All of those b-sides from the Joshua tree era are not as good as the tunes that were on the actual album. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part, b-sides are b-sides. Once again, I trust the makers of the music to tell me that these are the best tunes they have to offer and this is proper order to present them in.

  8. And by the way, Beautiful Day is one of the best tunes U2 have ever written...

And since they're inerrant, everyone who thinks that for their personal taste another tracklist would be better, is a heretic.
  10. HTDAAB was a very good record, although I dont think ATYCLB was great, but it is a good album. Neither though are in the same league as Achtung Baby.

I think the problem with Bomb is the order of the songs. The first 6 songs are the best on the album rock wise, then they get more mellow in the second half. I woukd have had it like this:

    City of Blinding Lights
    Original of the Species
    Vertigo
    Sometimes
    Miracle Drug
    All Because of You
    A Man and a Woman
    Yahweh
    Love and Peace
    Crumbs
    One Step Closer
    Fast Cars
..... and I agree with the above comment, Mercy and AYGWF should have been on there.

No Line on the Horizon will hopefully be a bit more experimental.

I have been a fan since the early 90's when I first really got into music.

    Me too. On both counts.

I just didn't find greatness bar a couple of songs each album. I can't fault a single song on AB or JT.

In your "humble" opinion, the B-sides from Joshua Tree were not as good... I'm not sure anyone said that they were better or worse.

Speaking of B-Sides are B-Sides, that is the problem with ATYCLB and HTDAAB... they are 2/3 really good album but 1/3 B-Sides. To me, One Step Closer, Crumbs..., New York, Grace... are not strong but decent enough to be - a B-Side.

    Diffrent strokes...

As for using alternate takes... I find ATYCLB more enjoyable with the "hallelujah" version of "Walk On" and the "Elevation (Biffco Mix) - So I made a disc with them on it. What brings you 'comedy' brings me listening enjoyment.
