If you don't like the song, then just say:
"I think it's crap". Easy done.

Same way of expressing it...saying 'I think' says enough for that matter.![]()

I like all of the albums but I 'get it' when some have complaints about ATYCLB and HTDAAB. They are very good albums but they are imperfect. Both trail off a bit at the end. Both (in my humble view) would have benefitted from better tracklists and some substitution.
ATYCLB:
Live, "New York" was fine but the album version? Not so much.
"Grace" isn't horrible but it isnt' spectacular either.
"Walk On" version with the hallelujahs is far better than the album version.
And the Biffco Mix and Tomb Raider mixes of Elevation are much better than the album version.
Love You Like Mad and Levitate, instead of Grace and New York would have improved the album, in my view.
HTDAAB
One Step Closer? Crumbs...? Great ideas that didnt' quite 'do it'.
The guitars on Native Son are far more sharp, spikey and in that early U2 post-punk fashion than Vertigo ended up. (Although the lyric for Vertigo is better than Native Son).
Mercy and Are You Gonna Wait Forever, instead of One Step Closer and Crumbs, would have made the album stronger.
And the electric / rock approach of Xanax and Wine would have made the album rock more.
To me, and many I have met. ATYCLB isn't horrible but it isn't as consistent at The Joshua Tree. And to many I've met along the way, HTDDAAB isnt' as complete a rock record as Achtung Baby.
There great thing about computers? We can resequence the tracks or substitute which version we like better. I listen to 'my' versions more than the 'official' versions of those two albums.
It is great that you connect with the last two albums. ATYCLB and HTDAAB are not bad. They are very good.
But there are inconsistencies that many can see that show that they are not 200% in the area of classics like The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby.

Sorry, but I just really find it commical when people make their own versions of U2 albums. There is a reason why U2 choose to put certain tracks on each album. They are the ones that make the music, so I will take their word for it that they know what they are doing and they know what sounds best.

See to me it is about opening up your mind to the present and the future and not comparing everything to the past. There are plently of older artists that I listen to that have put out unreal material in the last 5 years.
I have been a fan since the early 90's when I first really got into music.

You guys fall in love with these B-sides like they are the greatest thing in the world. All of those b-sides from the Joshua tree era are not as good as the tunes that were on the actual album. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part, b-sides are b-sides. Once again, I trust the makers of the music to tell me that these are the best tunes they have to offer and this is proper order to present them in.
