1. I'd define that as the "mood" of the album or so, I wouldnt say AB is a concept album... EBTTRT has nothing to do with So Cruel, nor MW with Acrobat...

Mmmm, what I thought too. So where's the concept in it?

Some more examples: Ride This Train (Johnny Cash) and Radio K.A.O.S. (Roger Waters).

  3. Making sense of relationships and oneself in a world fucked up by mass media and consumerism?
  4. For me Achtung Baby is THE musical journey. The whole concept behind it is music at its major expression. They were innovating lirically, with the instruments, with the recording techniques and with the whole understanding of music. But I don't think it's a concept album as we use to understand concept albums (such as Viva La Vida by Coldplay or The Wall by Pink Floyd)

Both perfect examples. I would have never thought of it.

I think Boy and October are musical journeys. A band starting out, finding out where the albums would take them (and just trying things out) after the years of pirate and college radio that many had been exposed to. Funnily enough, those two albums remain the best albums by U2 in 30-something years.
  6. Can we consider ATYCLB as a concept album? It has a certain theme (letting go, faith, journey, travelling)

    EDIT: Wrong thread actually...

I don't see why not. Actually, all U2's albums from Boy to Bomb have themes running through them, and joining them all together would create an idea of unity.

Sorry for perpetuating the off topicness but I have to say that ATYCLB is probably the biggest candidate for concept album out of the entire catalogue for the reasons that you've just mentioned.
  9. Dunno if u heard or read this

Irish rock giants U2 have been accused of plagiarism after it emerged that the group aren't the first to use Hiroshi Sugimoto's painting 'Boden Sea' as an album cover.

The band have kept fans waiting almost four years for a new album. Forthcoming record 'No Line On The Horizon' is U2's first since 2005 and comes amid a barrage of hype with Bono claiming to have re-invented rock and roll.

U2 are streaming their new single 'Get On Your Boots' from their website, and will perform it live at the prestigious Brit Award ceremony.

However, concerns have been raised by ambient duo Richard Chartier and Taylor Deupree who also used the painting on the cover of their 2006 album 'Specification'. A collection of ambient electronic pieces, it is almost as far away from the bombast of U2 as it is possible to go.

However, any accusations of plagiarism are unwarranted - it seems that the two parties merely have similar taste in paintings. Furthermore, the cover of Brothomstates' 2001 Warp album Caro uses the painting as well.

U2 release new album 'No Line On The Horizon' on March 2nd.
