1. My Digitech RP90 arrived today--what a neat little device. I'm just scratching the surface in realizing its potential (not to mention understanding how to work it). So far the expression pedal seems godly. Forget who had an RP70 and said they got a great Mysterious Ways tone out of it...but I hope in time I can too!

Jeff--you don't need to answer all or with much detail, but off the top of your head do you know what sorta effects Edge had lined up for live iterations of:

    -Hold Me, Thrill Me,...
    -Real Thing (Popmart)
    -Mysterious Ways
    -The Fly (Vertigo)
    -Mofo
    -Zoo Station
    -Lemon
    -Daddy's Gonna Pay...

Although, I've already heard some gripe. But in that, I heard the same 'griping' when "The Fly" came out and later... similar folk were praising the greatness of "The Fly".

The fact that "Get On Your Boots" isn't as immediate to some, as Vertigo and Beautiful Day may have been, is a good thing. The best songs, in my view, are one's that reveal themselves over time; a new layer showing itself with each listen.

That's a really important point. Noel Gallagher recently said in an interview "Don't come tell me you didn't like my record after listening to it once."

I totally see what you mean about the Fly--took a while to grow on me. And now it's one of my faves.

Edge said something about how the fuzz pedal is where rock all began. I like the sound and all, the fuzz is such a great effect. I'll be more keen to hear the other tracks foraying into newer soundscapes though.

And RE Adam's sparkle bass: I've never paid too much attention to his guitars until I saw that one. Looks really cool!

Also see Bono copying Thom Yorke in pulling out a white AC30 for his new album & tour.

= LP Goldtop. DigiTech Whammy Pedal for the intro and other pitchbending bits. I think the P70 has a "Whammy pedal effect".

    -Real Thing (Popmart)
= 12 string Ric. A bit of overdrive. DigiTech Whammy Pedal for the intro. I think the P70 has a "Whammy pedal effect". Might want to add a bit of compressor for sustain when playing the slide solo.

    -Mysterious Ways:
= 12 string Ric. Funk Wah patch on a Korg A3 is what Edge uses. Find a auto wah sound on the RP and add some overdrive. Probably want to slow the rate/envelope on the autowah to get that MW growl.

    -The Fly (Vertigo)
    = Not sure.

    -Mofo
= unsure. I'd have to feck around with this one. Definitely whammy going up 2 octaves for the pitchshifting bits. Overdrive and delay.

    -Zoo Station
= unsure. I'd have to feck around with this one. There is a setting on the Korg A3 that has basically most of what this sound comes from.

    -Lemon
= Lemon is basically tremolo set to a rapid square wave and whammy pedal up 2 octaves, that (using the Whammy on the RP) will get you pretty darn close. Add a bit of delay.

    -Daddy's Gonna Pay...
= unsure. I'd have to feck around with this one.

  4. Funny, everyone's checking out Edges gear all the time,i'm always checking out Adams gear.I'm wondering if it's a new Fender or an old one he has sent to the Fender Custom Shop.Adams tone was top notch the other day.
  5. For me, I don't really notice a change in Bass tones. Unless it's something with an effect on it, like when Adam use to use chorus on New Years Day and some other songs, I don't really notice a tone change in bass. I don't know if its just that I don't pay attention, or that I'm concentrating more on the guitar, but yea. For me, bass sounds like bass. What I will say, is that Adam's Bass was FUCKING AWESOME!!! At the Inaugural concert. It was so nice, the sparkly gold, the custom inlays, beautiful. I'm going to assume that will be his main bass over the next tour.

Yeh it looks like it,i think it sort of goes with GOYB also.Funny i notice the tone change between not only some songs but also when he changes basses.Watch Vertigo from Chicago and then Vertigo from Milan.Same bass but different EQ.I picked that on cause it's an obvious change.

Looks like a Custom Shop finish. But if it is from Custom Shop, more than likely it's new and not a refinish.
  8. Man, I love that track The intro riff has something to do with Eric Clapton I feel, and that's a great cumpliment coming from a Clapton fan Guitar(s) during the verses is also great, it adds a funky feeling that rocks a lot (moreover, that palm muted guitar on the background is somewhat mysterious and amazing)... And what about the solo after the middle of the song? It rocks A LOT

    Congrats, man...
  9. There's been a lot of talk about this bass... maybe too much talk? Nah... never too much talk about great gear.

Some have come across the this picture:

...and assumed that the above picture is THE bass that was used or one of the same make and model. Close but no..

Looks like it is indeed a Fender Jazz bass. Adam probably had it made by the Fender Custom shop or had an older model refinished by them.

Here is the answer I got back from Lakland:

"Unfortunately those are Fenders. We made him a similar color bass but don't know if he is using it.

His last order was provided without finish so he could match the paint of his Fender. I don't know if it ever got put together."
  10. More piccies of Adam's sparkly Fender Jazz:

As you can see, on the headstock, where it says "Fender" in thier script log and then in smaller laters "Jazz Bass" (Lakland is in more of a block like font) :

  11. And as it IS all about the drums...

I got some facts and figures from the chap I emailed at Yamaha about the Lincoln Memorial / We Are One kit:

The silver kit was actually a bit of a hybrid.

    A bit of history first:

    - The Joshua Tree/Lovetown tours: LMJ used a Yamaha Turbo Tour kit. (black finish)

    - Zoo TV/Zooropa tours: LMJ used a Yamaha Maple Custom drum kit.
    - Popmart tour: LMJ used (2) Yamaha Maple Custom drum kits. (1) The main stage kit, had each drum with a different sparkle finish (bass drum was gold sparkle, rack tom was red sparkle, (2) floor toms were blue/silver fade sparkle) and the B-Stage kit was a white sparkle kit.

    - Elevation: LMJ used a Yamaha Beech Custom drum kit. (Mica White finish)
    - Vertigo tour: LMJ used a Yamaha Absolute Beech Custom drum kit. (Mica White finish)

The Kit Used for the "We Are One" show was a bit of a hybrid of drum models.
    - Oak Custom (24") bass drum
    - Oak Custom (16") floor tom
    - Absolute Maple (14") rack tom

...all in silver sparkle. The chap from Yamaha wasn't sure about the snare drum. It didn't look like the one of the Brady snares that Larry's used... I will have to investigate the video footage and pictures a bit more.
