If you ever go through a lenghty period where you doubt or lose faith in a band that you once thought could do no wrong then you might understand my point of view a little more. Nothing this decade has excited me apart from Sydney and Mexico coming to DVD so to hear all this talk about 'new directions' and 'innovation' and to hear about Bono being in the studio so long and noth see him on the news overly much, to hear the new song, not like it then like it, then seeing the video with a big ONE wrist band and other references to Bono's extra curricular activities is a bit of a kick in the balls.

  2. Why is it kick in the balls? Do you think he shouldn't fight for Africa? Do you think he should be like every other spoiled "rock star" that would fill newspapers with scandals?

he does fight for Africa and fair play to him for it. He doesn't need to get it in absolutely EVERYWHERE. All i'm saying is that I would have prefered the video without the references to his other interests. If thats too hard to comprehend then lets noot continue this particular line of conversation.
  4. U2 has always been a political band and will always be, that's true.
But politics is a wide wide range, so that isn't an argument.
I don't see why I shouldn't be able to be okay with the things they did and stood for years ago but have a problem with the approach that the lead singer takes now.

Personally, I don't have a problem with that Bono preaches but what Bono preaches and what he does to promote it.
He has the best intentions but takes the wrong way imho.

But that is my general approach, nothing to do with the video. I watched it once complete - and didn't even notice the wristband.
  5. bono has the 'power' to be heard, thanks to his rockstar status. if he wants to use that power for something good then I'm not complaining. if I had the chance to get an important message across, I'd use it, too.

if the rest of the band wouldn't at least somewhat agree, they would tell bono 'no, not again.' but they don't.

  6. I knew you'd make it through the whole thing eventually!

2:06 into the video on the Irish Independent's website, it's right there.

You're cringing at ONE wrist band? WTF? I even can't see anything except white wrist band. Were you cringing at the white flag during War Tour?

It's just what U2 has been about since ever.

The video is coming up, and everyone gets excited. Then video comes, and then we get:
    a) oh fuck, there's band in it (!!)
    b) oh fuck, there's white wrist band on singers arm (!!!)
    c) oh fuck, there's poor African people in it, poor African people tend to fuck up our bootlegs
    d) oh fuck, beach clip was better
    e) oh fuck, my brother burned my pajamas.

Can't you people just enjoy in something? Have you ever tried to write some good lyrics or music? If you did, then you'd probably know it's damn hard. And they're still damn good at it.

Post of the year It's okay to be critical, but it's s wristband people

Anyways, the video is really cool, it reminds me of Across the Universe
  9. I love the video. All that random stuff going on in it is just great lol
and i've watched it and i have never noticed Bono's wristband in it
  10. I didn't notice the wristband, and to be honest I still haven't picked up on it (I've watched the vid. 3 times, I think?), but I'm not too concerned - if Bono wants to air his views, I'm not bothered. If his 'extra-curricular' activites affect the quality of the music produced, maybe I will, but I think Yeah's point about U2 always having been political is also valid. You might not necessarily agree, but Bono and the crew have the chance to air their views and when they can, they will lol - it's just part of the package, and you kinda just have to accept it. Whether you agree with it is another matter entirely, but I personally think it's flogging a dead horse in some respects.
  11. I looove it
I love the let me in the sound place...it rocks
the only problem is that now i cant watch it in youtube because >>This video is not available in your country. ||| where could I find it...??

Brilliant post, mate. Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately a handful of people like to believe that they know the band, the business and how the band should conduct themselves far better than everybody else, including the biggest and most successful band in the world. Post of the year, you got my vote!

U2's not perfect but I like to think we are here, together, more because we enjoy their better moments rather than complain about their missfires. I mean, transendence is the point isn't it? Not going to achieve it whining all the time...

I hope eventually that this U2 fansite once again becomes a U2 fansite like it used to be
