Brilliant post, mate. Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately a handful of people like to believe that they know the band, the business and how the band should conduct themselves far better than everybody else, including the biggest and most successful band in the world. Post of the year, you got my vote!

U2's not perfect but I like to think we are here, together, more because we enjoy their better moments rather than complain about their missfires. I mean, transendence is the point isn't it? Not going to achieve it whining all the time...

I hope eventually that this U2 fansite once again becomes a U2 fansite like it used to be

We will always be a fan site but if a fan expects or desires something from the band that the band do not provide then people might like say so. I love it that we all aren't starry eyed fan boys. It's great to have some criticism and anger at the band knocking around these forums. Without it this would be one sad place

Or Interference Part II..(although there are some criticasters there too)

Criticism is good, U2 aren't flawless.

You are right, it is great to have some criticism and anger knocking around these forums. But knocking around and filling up are entirely different. You don't have to be a 'starry eyed fan' to raise an eyebrow at the nitpicking.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking you or your viewpoint. I like you, dude and I think you know that. I just think the stink of cynicism is getting a little too strong around these parts and it was nice to see a post that reflected that in our collective headshake.

And for the record, in accordance to this post, I loved the video

I am a nitpicker. The band haven't ticked my boxes in a few years. New single gets a big thumbs up, 30 second clips don't. Video is fine but I was just hoping it would be band themed. No other side messages to his other causes. No big deal. Must be an Irish thing. You will never meet an Irishman that likes Bono. Thats fact.

I'm an Irishman and Bono getting his publicity for his other cases (although good causes) through the video kinda cracked me up.

  5. And as the person who first brought up the One bracelets, let me say that I thought the video was pretty cool 7.5 out of 10.

    I love U2, but....maybe I've got some Irish ancestry I didn't know about.

  7. Hahahaha point-set-match, sir. Well played

  8. Have to pull you on that one Ger. I'm Irish as well and I more than like Bono (in a heterosexual way lol) for all his mad genius and ability to cause people to both love and hate him at the same time and with equal devotion (and sometimes within the same person as well!!)

Yeah all the 3rd world fundraising stuff stuff can get a bit OTT; but that's what you get with Bono - you have to take the whole package and can't simply want his musical genius on its own without accepting some of the extra-curricular stuff as well.

As for the wristband in the video, I didn't even notice it what with everything else that's going on; and I do love the video in all its Dali-esque quirkiness. To me it's the band doing what they do best - rocking out and giving us a good time with some sexy girls thrown in to boot - how bad!!

Anyway, less than 10% of people will even notice that wristband; and, of them, less than half will even be bothered with it. I for one do think that Bono & the lads will get back to doing what they do best this year, and hopefully there'll be less real-politik stuff in the live shows etc; but, if it is in there, then that'll be ok too, because that's what got an impressionable young kid into them in the first place, because they were a band that mattered and made you feel proud to say that they were, still are, and will undoubtedly continue to be, my favourite band.

I hope you get what you're looking for!!

    Cheers,
    Sean.

yes i have heard it too that irishmen doesnt like Bono....kind of weird..they should love him more then anybody else
  10. when I saw the wristbands in the video, I was actually going 'cool, I got one of those.'
  11. Most Irishmen will love Larry, as he is still the most 'Irish' of them all and always have been.
  12. They just showed the vid on vh1 for the first time
