1. I liked most of the lyrics.

    ''If you were ice
    I'm water''

    love it

    ''You're gravity
    Searching for the ground
    You're silence
    Searching for a sound
    You're heart is aching''

    even better

  2. those sound cool on a page...maybe it was the melody line i didn't like. Anyways, was never into that song.

  3. too long and the chorus just gets sang too many times.

And it's the same verse as the one at the beginning of the beach clip, because the 'cockatoo' line is in both.
I mean the part (from the BC) that starts around 0:27. That seems like the 2nd part of the first verse. They should have left it that way, instead of adding the ''these days...''
Yeah its indeed the same verse

I agree Mercy had great lyrics, however the second half was overlong and got boring, a bit like TUF in that regard. The first verses were fantastic though.

i rekon, this might be one of those songs when u hear the early edition a few years later and go why the f- did they muck around with the song so much. hopefully he only says the 'these days' thing once, it sounds stupid, but then again the let me in the osund bit sounded dumb to me at first, now i love it.
  7. I like the electronics on Mercy, and half of the lyrics are aight.

Might just be me, but I love the "these days" part. The piano in the background added a lot more to the (short) clip, made it a bit more interesting and seemed to flow better imo. I can't wait to hear the rest--and Magnificent and Fez.

  9. Can I just re-iterate how disappointed I am that "Mercy" didn't make it on the album?

I still maintain it's one of the best songs they've recorded in 10 years. Great length, no boring bits, beautiful lyrics and Bono at his passionate best. A real shame it won't see the light of day.........officially

  10. Well, you could've expected that, there was no way they were gonna include Mercy.
Main reason I think is because it doesn't fit on this album/theme, maybe it will see the daylight sometime. Remember LAPOE was started during Pop, and released 7 years later

I agree it will possibly show up some day in some form. I think in the early stages of No Line, it was perhaps planned to be included but from what I gather things really took a different turn during and after the Fez sessions, and the work those sessions yielded really wouldn't have fit with Mercy like you said.

But I agree that it is one of their best songs just like has already been stated, nothing I find wrong with it, its purely spiritually transcendent.

I've got nothing against including it as a B-side.
