  1. Apparently I'm one of the elderly U2 fans round here. The first time I remember seeing U2 was at Live Aid. I hated them. It didn't help that the older girl down the street who I was in love with always went on and on about U2. Then I see some guy with an awful mullet leaving the stage to go into the crowd, and driving all of the girls wild. So for two years, I hated U2. Then I heard WOWY, and thought maybe these guys aren't so bad. Soon after it was ISHFWILF, and that was it. I quickly got the Joshua Tree on cassette, and I've been hooked ever since.

    Sounds great...from one end to the other My brother has it too. he always hated Bono because of his speeches and political stuff. But he has watched the entire Joshua DVD last week and is about to become a fan too. He even said he's willing to join me on the next U2 concert.

  5. How I discovered u2....

    I think it was almost 2 years ago that we one time saw the vertigo tour on tv, late at night...
    I knew them before, but only the famous numbers...( sunday bloody sunday..ect.)

    When the show was over I sat completey frozen on the couch..with a feeling from WOW....what have I missed all these years....
    I got behind my computer and ordered the dvd from the Vertigo concert on Ebay right after the tv show was over, and we watched it a million times by now...
    We bought every cd we could get our hands on....and a lot of dvd´s too...

    We have five kids, and they ask all time " Can we hear some U2 ?" when the cd player is turned off..

    A funny story, our youngest one, she a three year old girl, was standing on the table in the kitchen while I was making dinner, she had sunglasses on and danced on u2´s music, all the time she said " I,m Bono, I,m Bono !! but after a while one of my other daughters came to me and said " Mom, Bono stinks...." and that was because she had done something in her daiper....I laughed till I almost cried...Bono stinks...!!

    First of all: Nice story...despite what hamish has done on that video (please don't start!) I was " " when I saw it too, it was the first U2 concert I saw.
    Second: Bono stinks..LOL! Nice...it's a good U2-y house you've got there, I'm actually thinking that my wife should be a U2 fan as well (or I'll just drive her crazy!! ).
  7. Well they were in the news because that night they were playing in Amsterdam. I actually didnt know who they were(i was15), but then on Yorin fm they held a U2 marathon and i liked the songs, then i saw the stuck in a moment video and i buyed the whole album immediatly, it was such a good song . Then i discovered their other music and now i know that they are the greatest band in teh world

    It's got a killer version of Electric Co. The best editing on that entire video.
  9. This is how it happened for me...
    In my grade 9 drama class, the summative (kinda like the exam in drama) was a performance of many things, like a skit, freeze frames, a monologue and a poem. And we had to base it on a song. I didn't really know U2 too much at the time, I had heard Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years Day on the radio, and I thought wow U2's old stuff is pretty cool. I didn't know they were old! Anyways, we used I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for. We got the highest mark in the class. We needed the track to be playing during the freeze frames, so I went out and bought the best of 80's-90's cd. After the drama thing, I listened to the cd. Then I bought War and the Joshua Tree, and thats that. it was too bad, because about 2 months before all this happened, U2 came to Ottawa, my hometown and played on the Vertigo tour. Damn! If only I was a fan a bit sooner.
  10. This is my U2 testimony. It's boring but long.

    I discovered U2 in 1984 with "Pride". I loved the song, but at that time I was fourteen and most of TUF's album tracks didn't do it for me. During the next two years I had a few friends who were big U2 fans at that time and introduced me to the band's political and social messages. I learned to love SBS, Bad, ASOH and TUF but U2 still wasn't one of my fav bands.

    When JT came out it hooked me immediately and turned me into a loyal longtime fan. I love that album, a true masterpiece in rock history. On a 1987 Ireland trip I was in Dublin, located in a monastery very close to the stadium wall when U2 played over there, so I heard everything - what an honour. After that day I started to buy and collect U2 maxi singles because of the additional B- side tracks. RAH cemented U2's status for me, even if they still weren't my absolute fav band. This special place was occupied then by The Alarm and later by Big Country.

    When AB came out my friends turned their back on it - but it was different to me. At first I found it difficult to like, but after a few dozen spins I was completely hooked once again. My friends couldn't understand it, but when I visited ZooTV in Frankfurt it blew me away. Back then it was the most expensive concert I had been to - but worth every single penny.

    I admit that I wasn't excited by Zooropa. Pop was even worse to my rock- used ears. During that time I dug deep into seventies hard rock like Steppenwolf, Deep Purple, Mountain and Motörhead, so I couldn't relate to these albums sonically at all while still admiring the band's artistic vision and the courage to release stuff that a lot of their old fans (like my friends) disliked. However, these two albums still don't rank among my favourite ones.

    ATYCLB was an album I immediately liked sound- wise, and it brought U2 back into my focus. I returned to working on my collection of b- sides which I had stopped some time ago. During these years my musical focus shifted from 70's rock mostly towards christian rock of various styles. I loved HTDAAB from the very first day. I think it's a brilliant album from a grown up rock band with a vision of justice and a message of love from the very heart of God. Two years ago I finally discovered this site and built my own small collection of selected U2 live concerts from the diifferent eras.

    I don't quite know if I have a favourite band nowadays (except of course my own band) but if I had to name just one I'd most likely pick U2.

  11. I discovered U2 from my parents playing ATYCLB. THey also had jt but didn't play it, so I did and loved the first three, hated the rest. Then I tried to piece the story of the album together, and after 6 listens I knew it was love. The rest was history.
  12. Hi, I'm a foreign from Portugal. Sorry my English.
    I'm a u2 follower since i was about 16 years and it was a friend of mine, olderthan me that show me and borrow a cassette with songs of boy, october and war and UF cause I remenber love BAD.
    The next thing i remenber was watching desire clip on tv and then convice friends to copy their albuns.
    Since then they are my band and my girlfriend, nowadays my wife, knew them cause i love their songs.
    Today i have a child with almost 2 yars and its unbelivable see that he loves bad, runnig to stand still, wow, uf, 40 in the live from paris and already antecipates some things of the songs, cause he knows the songs since he was unborn, but is interesting that he only listen the dvd from paris he don'like R&H.
    I Think u2 will follow me to the rest of my days.
