    The fuzzgun can wait

What's the prob with your strat? What kind of repair does it need?

Guess I'll have to pass on this fuzzgun thing, too. Wouldn't quite know what to use it for anyway. If I need a distortion box in addition to my tubeman I'll continue using my old Ibanez Fat Cat (Proco Rat Clone).

  3. Latest U2.com video?

Adam Clayton playing the John Entwistle designed "Buzzard Bass". You will get a kick out of Larry's response!

Adam Clayton & The Buzzard Bass:

I hope that Adam brings this thing on tour... it makes the Auerswald from Popmart look almost normal.

    More information on the Buzzard...

  4. HAHAHA. "WOW! that's the batman guitar is it?" Man that was funny. Larry is an "ill man". What a cool response.

As for my strat Alex (weird saying that, as if I'm talking to myself) there's nothing wrong with it. I did just get the pickups changed because the old ones were being screwy, but that was only to sell it. I'm selling it because I want to get an American, and the money from selling my mexi will go towards the cost.

  5. That was funny!! The song he was recording sounded good too. Not sure abou the bass though. I would have to hear it better.
  6. Hahahaha. "You're gonna have to turn it down."

And RE NLOTH Version 2--any idea what equipment he used? It sounds an awful lot like when I plug my Epi Casino into the drive channel on my Vox AC50. That "shimmering" sound in the chorus sounds like some of the Telecaster clips we've heard on the videos that U2.com have posted.

NLOTH ver 2. It is quite possible that a Casino was used.

Why do I think this? There are bits of the guitar melody that are very "Holy Joe". Seems to be a similar part to that melody and very similar in the "Holy Joe" tone.

On "Holy Joe" Edge used his Gibson 330TD (also used for "One" during Zoo TV). It is to my understanding that his Casino replaced his 330TD, after the 330TD was destroyed in the HQ flood.

Which video clip - for the shimmer bit - are you referring? Just wondering.

There is a tobacco Telecaster seen in a few of the videos. Wonder if that will be taken on the road... time will tell.

Here (http://media.u2.com/flash/highlights/edgeputitdown.swf) you can see that particular Tele. Sounds like they are working on Magnificent here, but to me the sound was sort of similar.

And here (http://media.u2.com/flash/highlights/edgeback.swf) about 2:04 in he's got the Casino with a similar sound (to me anyway).

I really love my Tele and my Casino--it would be so great to see him use them more on the road! (And on an irrelevant side note: I wish he'd use that spectacular SG for songs other than Elevation)

  9. First guitar seen is a Gretsch White Falcon. It is not the same as the Falcon seen in the "Pride" video. Legend has it, that one drowned in the HQ flood in 2002.

Second guitar, at about 49 seconds in is the tobacco Fender Tele.

Third guitar, at about 1 minute and 30 seconds, appears to be a white Les Paul Custom

Fourth guitar, the oen you mentioned at 2mins and 04 secs is most likely as you mentioned - the Casino.

  10. The Tobacco Tele seems quite the favored guitar during the sessions.

As seen in the Edge back video and also in the video posted to the Guardian last week.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/theobserver/video/2009/feb/08/u2-album-new-line-on-the-horizon

It is possible that was the Tele used for Get On Your Boots. It is possible it is on Magnificent, as seen in the U2.com video.

And it is possible that it is in "Fez - Being Born" as seen in the Guardian video listed above.

So will the Explorer was the guitar of the early 80's and the black Strat the guitar being more prominent in the mid-late 80s.

The 1990s seemed to be dominated by the Les Pauls and Rickenbacker 12 strings.

The 2000's see the era, or at least the rise in use, of the Tele. The 1996 white Tele being used for SBS. The 1966 Lake Placid Blue Telecaster (used for promo shows for Vertigo and later in the tour for "Instant Karma". Tele Custom ("Vertigo" video). The 1966 blonde Telecaster for most Vertigo tour airings of "Vertigo" - and "Get On You Boots" at the Grammy's) and a lot of video documentation of use of the tobacco Tele for this album.

Viva La Tele? =O) I like Tele's myself. I have a lovely 2004 reissue of a 1972 Telecaster Custom. It's pretty much become my main guitar lately. Humbucker in the neck has a nice warm sound and the bridge pickup has that Tele twang that cuts through a mix nicely. (Edge should use HIS 1972 Tele Custom more often!)

Yeah my Tele is also funnily enough a 2004 model with humbucker in neck position (but alas not a 72 RI, a Mexican model in splendid Agave Blue finish).

I think the Tele's genius lies in its simplicity: its basically just a 7 lb. slab of wood with some pickups and a neck attached. Such a sturdy, serious, solid piece of equipment, heavy yet perfectly weighted. I can really saw away at it and know exactly what it's gonna sound like.

I can understand why Keith Richards has used a Tele almost exclusively for the last 40 years (I say exclusively because of the occasional Strat, 335, LP Junior).

Let's recall the inaugural post on this thread:

This piccy is of Edge playing his Ash Telecaster not the normally seen `66 Cream Tele.

It looks similar, and may be, the Tele used for "The Unforgettable Fire" (UF tour through JT tour) but I'm not certain. Looks darn close to the early era Tele used for "The Unforgettable Fire" when compared to the two JT era pics below.
