1. Still resisted.

    Well.

I gave myself some 45 second snippets last night separate to the one's off Walmart.

I'm not holding out for some purist CD buying reason. I'll be doing that anyway and be just as excited.

I'm liking what you guys are saying. Especially seeing Ger with his mojo back and Yeah loving some tracks.

    When will I find time........?

In the weekend? Curtains closed...dimmed light, bottle of beer (or wine), nice sofa...and play the thing.

Comedy is bearable but taking Boots out takes absolutely zilch away from the album. Removing it actually adds to the album

Can't comment on the album flow of course, but I'm liking it more now I've got the CD and higher quality. It's not in my U2 top 20 though, I must say.....

Family may have something to say about that.......

I'll find time. Likely car first time I think.

  6. Definitely adds to Fez for me - pretty cool to hear the "let me in the sound" part there without still having it in mind from 5 minutes before.

I mean WTF, how do you know what they wanted to play and how they wanted it to rhyme? This is art, not math.

that's basically what i tried to say but i was too irritated to make clear sense
  8. After 5 listens and some random picking, here are my thoughts:

    No Line On The Horizon
Slightly better than the b-side with better vocals and less repetitive. It has a sort of distorted feel over it, which I kinda like.
    8/10

    Magnificent
The most 'christian' song of them all..lyrics could fit perfectly on October or ATYCLB. Epic song, instant hit. Great guitar-tune from Edge with buzzing drums from Larry. Bono sometimes struggles with his voice, it seems, but that doesn't bother me. Will kick ass live and should be a single.
    9.5/10

    Moment of Surrender
Best song of the album for sure. A passionate Bono with beautiful lyrics. Brings back the Joshua Tree with an awesome overall mood. Shouldn't be any longer, shouldn't be any shorter. Shot in the rose.
    10/10

    Unknown Caller
Eno-start followed by a ATYCLB-kinda guitar. Love the 'Ooh-ooh's here and the tune builds up to a nice end with a good solo. Love the organs.
    8/10

I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
Poppy song with a nice melody and somewhat silly lyrics. Not the most serious song. Love Larry's drumming here but doesn't blow my ears off. And when Bono sings 'Crazy Tonight' he sounds like a hoarse Girls Aloud member. Love the country-styled solo though.
    7/10

    Get On Your Boots
Make it a Bomb-outtake and put Levitate on here (reworked). But no..we've got to live with it. Decent rocker, but Vertigo was way better. Doesn't fit on the album.
    6.5/10

    Stand Up Comedy
Good start but gets repetitive. It doesn't have climax. Decent, but they surely can come up with something better.
    6.5/10

    FEZ-Being Born
The entire album should have been made with this direction. FEZ itself is a nice dreamy tune probably for some part recorded on a Morrocan market. Being Born kicks off and when Bono starts screaming I got goosebumps all over. Lovely.
    10/10

    White As Snow
I felt underwhelmed at first listen, expected something more epic with more Edge. But it has grown on me and it's a good ballad with some good lyrics and a certain mystic mood. I like the somewhat mediterranean sounds
    8/10

    Breathe
Like it. Rockiest song after GOYB with a Bono on fire. Love the middle section with violins and the short but good solo.
    8.5/10

    Cedars of Lebanon
Still have mixed feelings about this song. A grower for sure, in my case. Great lyrics however and a good melody. Perfect closer but I need time with it. It has potential.
    8/10

Overall more than satisfied with this. Won't say it's a masterpiece, but it's better than the Bomb, better than ATYCLB, better than Pop and when Zooropa comes to mind...it get doubtful.

    8.5/10
  9. Hm, I just realised that apart from War this is the only album that has three 10/10 songs for me...
Imagine what could have happened if they scrapped boots and Stand up and went on in the Being Born direction.

maybe next time. Yout initial thoughts place it where in the U2 album league table?

  11. Hard to tell after such a short time. If I would be forced to come up with something right now I'd probably put it on #5 - behind Achtung, Pop, Zooropa and War.
