    HI GUYS!!!!!!!! great album

I read that as well, and when you think about it, the hardcore fans who d'loaded it will buy it anyway, the people that wouldnt have bought it would have just d'loaded it when it was out.

  2. yeh, i bought 2 versions, is their a difference between jewel case and 32 page book 1, in terms of lyric pages?

  5. Mark's view on No Line On The Horizon
    No Line On The Horizon
The box set arrived to me this morning and of course the first thing I did was putting it in my cd player and the volume on 100%. Might not be my best idea ever. I certainly didn't expect the sudden blast that came out of there. (I know, I could've known, the 'wall of sound ).
It's certainly better than the B-side and I really enjoy the chorus. I do think they could've openend it better (I prefer a build-up opening), but it's great way to start this beautiful album.
    Bono's voice is brilliant.

    Magnificent
Very good. I love the Zoo Station-ish intro, which makes me wonder why didn't open the album with this song. You can definitely hear the morrocan-influenced rhythm and I see why a lot of people here enjoy it a lot. This will probably be the best single of this album. A great guitar solo of The Edge, really awesome.

    Moment Of Surrender
This is a special one for me. It's starts slow, but I really enjoy the hiphop-ish intro. I was gently surprised by Bono's 'I tied myself with wire'. Really awesome first lyric and the way he sings it is perfect. After that it becomes a song that would totally fit in a church. ANd it makes me wonder why I have lost my faith in the Christian church. It almost makes me believe again. It's one of the three best tracks on this album, and if they can pull this off live then I'm a very happy man.

    Unknown Caller
Second best song on the album. I really love the intro with the beautiful 'Sunshine, sunshine'. Bono sounds brilliant there
After that it becomes a tune with 'stadium rock' written all over it. I can't wait to hear Edge, Bono, Larry and maybe even Adam sing that chorus together, along with a huge crowd. It makes me think of the end of Coldplay's 'Fix You' and that is brilliant. Great solo too by our guitar hero.

I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
I adore this. After 4 pretty serious and deep stuff it's nice to have a tune that's less serious and that's all about having fun. Bono sounds beautiful again. I think this would be a good single. The chorus is beautiful sung by Edge and Bono and I don't think it's too poppy or whatever. It certainly has guitar all over it. Nice little tune, absolutely NOT an album filler.

    Get On Your Boots
I seem to be one of the very few, but I still adore this song. After listening to live versions and seen the clip I think it's a worthy single.

    Stand Up Comedy
The politics aren't completely gone after all! And that's a thumbs up
Great funky rhythm by Adam and it made me think of a BTBS version from PopMart. And that's another thumbs up
Great reggae-ish opening (with the drums) and a heavy metal-ish rhythm by Edge. Can't wait to hear this gem live. Also, this could be a great song to be played right after the opener (on the tour, a la Vertigo on the Chicago dvd)

    Fez/Being Born
I see a lot of people who say this is the best song. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. Fez is awesome, really love the link with GOYB. I think it would be a great tune for in the encore, with GOYB right after there opening the encore. (a la Lemon remix/Discotheque on PopMart)
But I'm having a bit trouble with Being Born. It has a great rhythm, really Ultraviolet/Acrobat-ish, but I'm having problems with the chorus. Is it the 'Oooooh' part? Anyway, maybe after a few more listens I can give a really good view on this.

    White As Snow
One Step Closer part 2 without a doubt, and to be honest I like OSC better. But this tune is certainly a nice one. The melody is a bit easy, but Bono's voice sounds beautiful broken here. A nice tune for the acoustic set next tour.

    Breathe
What a song. Brilliant. I already heard a live version, but the album version is brilliant too
Bono's rapping is brilliant, can't wait for him to fuck up the lyrics next tour
Would be a great single, and competes with Magnificent for being THE hitsingle of this album. (Of course I hope they both reach #1 ). This will become a regular on next tour and I absolutely don't mind that.

    Cedars Of Lebanon
Best song I've ever heard from our boys.

It's been a while since I felt like this about a song. Bono's voice is beautiful, he's just talking the words. Great lyrics, great chorus too. It's really minimalistic and that is so brilliant. Classy. I simply don't know how to describe it. It feels like the first time I heard BD, which made me love them in the first place.
COL is without a doubt the best tune on the album and I truly hope they won't play it live. Cause Bono would try to sing it, and I'm afraid that would totally ruin it.

    Overall
It might be a bit early, but I have the feeling this is their best thing ever. Might be because that beautiful box is blinding me lol
I think the chorus of Unknown Caller shows it all: every band member is up there, all 4 of them are in control on this album, they are ALL contributing brilliantly. And if they only can get these tunes to the stage...
  6. Nice stuff Mark. Well done for holding out

Being Born will surely grow on you. I'm convinced.
  7. Congrats Mark. Just came back home with the box set and fortunately that had the GOYB single too

Do you think every song needs chorus? I love this and one of things I like on this song is, that there is no chorus. Just two verses... I hope it will grow for you, for me it is one of the best songs they've ever done
  9. great review, and thank you for sharing with us, i still havent listened to the album and i count the seconds till next week, your review makes it much harder, but it's a good thing.

Oh, I quite like songs without a real chorus, don't get me wrong. But for some reason it's not very U2-ish you know? I'm sure it will grow on me, but with U2 you (or at least I do) kinda except a song of verses and chorusses. And actually it has started to grow on me after I listened to it a few times in a row

    You can do it m'man
    Glad you liked my review

  11. Nice review Mark, you've renewed my excitement for Monday
  12. Well I just had my first listen, so I know this review will change in the weeks to come. My first impressions are that this album is a good one, though not a great one. Talk of this being their best in some reviews is just plain silly.

The stand out tracks in the album are:

No Line on the Horizon: nice raw sound to Bonos voice here, good start to the album.
Magnificent: the best song on the album easily.
I'll Go Crazy, Boots, Stand Up: Should all sound great live.
Breathe: Think this could be a possible single, I know I'll grow to love it.

Not too sure about the other songs as of yet but I do need a few more listens!!
