1. USA Today review this morning of No Line On The Horizon gives it 4/4 stars.

The more I listen to this album, the better it gets. I wasn't sure about Crazy Tonight and Stand Up at first, but now they've grown on me. This is definetely their third masterpiece, probably not as good as Joshua Tree but in the same ballpark with Achtung Baby. I really liked ATYCLB and HTDAAB when they first came out, but never would have said that. Can't wait to hear this stuff live.
  2. I read a rumor on Interference that "Winter" would be on the U.S. version. Anyone know if this is true?

I added "Winter" and changed the sequence on my I-Pod slightly and I think this order gives the album more balance and the songs follow each other nicely both musically and conceptually. It also gives NLOTH another politically-charged song, especially for audiences in the U.S. whose military is in, you know, Afghanistan.

    No Line on the Horizon
    Magnificent
    Moment of Surrender
    Unknown Caller
    Stand Up Comedy
    Crazy Tonight
    Get On Your Boots
    FEZ -- Being Born
    Winter
    White As Snow
    Breathe
    Cedars of Lebanon

Hear that, Bono? God forbid you should release an album with 12 songs. I'm waiting for this song order on the 2019 remastered deluxe version. Thank you.

The stand out tracks in the album are:

No Line on the Horizon: nice raw sound to Bonos voice here, good start to the album.
Magnificent: the best song on the album easily.
I'll Go Crazy, Boots, Stand Up: Should all sound great live.
Breathe: Think this could be a possible single, I know I'll grow to love it.

Not too sure about the other songs as of yet but I do need a few more listens!!

    Disagree.
I have the feeling this is one of the very few (if not the only one) where the WHOLE band is great. To me (almost) every previous album was a standout by one, two, maybe three members. Here EVERYONE of them sounds awesome. Great bass, great drums, great guitar riffs, and yes, Bono's best studio voice ever.
HTDAAB was to me a record where Larry and Adam were good, but Bono and Edge not so much.
ATYCLB had Bono and Edge nailing it, but I wasn't upside down by Adam and Larry.
Pop had in generally Larry who was awesome
Zooropa was all Bono and Adam
AB had Edge and Adam written all over it
RH and JT had Edge all over the place
    TUF was all Bono's work
War and October had Larry as the main man
And Edge was THE man on Boy

Bu this record has them ALL being important. As I said in my review: listen to the chorus of Unknown Caller: You'll see what I mean.
  4. Right on, Mark. You really hear the whole band playing on this record, on Moment of Surrender, Unknown Caller, and Breathe especially. The Edge's guitar is felt in many places, obviously, but there Adam Clayton's bass is more prominent than usual, and then there's the drum roll on Breathe. Best album since Achtung Baby by a long shot.

Oh, that's for sure (even tough I personally like Zooropa and Pop better than AB, but for the general U2-public it certainly is)

I could be too positive here, it's my first day as NLOTH-listener (don't blame me), but I truly think we're witnessing something VERY special here.
Maybe in a week I'm already tired of the album, but the first sign are good

I told you you'd love it!!
  7. By the way, most dutch reviews are positive and rate the album with 4 out of 5

  8. Like nu.nl. They rated Tonight of Franz Ferdinand 5 out of 5. Disgusting.

  9. I downloaded almost immediatley, and put it on repeat. Yesterday I had to force myself to listen to something(anything) else just to avoid NLOTH burnout. IMO a week out it is way better than the first few listens. Not ready to put in 3rd masterpiece territory, but it certainly belongs in that next tier of very good U2 albums, and is by far their best of the 21st century.

i was exactly like u at 1st, after some more listens it grew and now i LOVE the whole thing.
  11. My first impressions: Promising, half of the songs have potential, other half are ho-hum (hoping that will change), trying to understand why Moment of Surrender appeals to everyone. No Line and Magnificent were the only two instant grabs for me.
