1. Except for one thing; he completely blew the last, ever so vital "let me in the sound", greatly worsening the performance. Unfortunately, that is.
  2. First couple of times a little dissapointed but after listening to about 5 times and hearing some of these tracks live it's AWESOME.............

I listened to all the 30 second previews on iTunes and wasn't all that impressed, but you have to hand it to them, two monster singles that are still in the top 20 many many months after they were released that are doing exactly what singles should do - promote the album that they're from. I would love to see U2 produce a new song that could penetrate the popular consciousness so well, but perhaps it's about time they took the Led Zeppelin route and didn't bother with singles. Speaking of Led Zep, anyone else noticed that Stand Up Comedy starts like a slowed down version of Immigrant Song?

    I am pleased to report that I now like "Magnificent".

    C'mon, its only 30 seconds, don't judge the album based off that. NLOTH is better though

Articles said that U2 were mixing with trance music and dance music, sort of like POP, however i find there are no elements of that genre in the album, there are some signs of it in Magnificent, but it cuts off. Recently descovering industrial music, mainly Nine Inch Nails, I Could of saw U2 stepping up their different sounds. There was so much hype about this album from Q magazines and others. In Q Bono Claimed that if they made the album right, 2009 was going to be THEIR year. Big statement to pull off, sadly i doubt this will be u2's year. 2009 is full of shitty bands, nonetheless synthesiser music is popular at the moment. I had a full listen to this album several times and like people have said is does certainly grow on you. But c,mon really!... is a great album something you should listen to all the way through 5,6,7 or 8 times! No it isnt. the songs are good, but nothing what it was meant out to be. Being a huge U2 fan i was forcing myself to like it for the fact that it was U2. It does come across as a good album after 5 listens, but at times there is no energy throughout it, i hardly like Vertigo, but even vertigo has more intensity than most of the songs. So i give it 3/5. please reply to this, first time writing on this would like a bit of feed back. Cheers!

    Yeah, I guess its not very electronic-ish
  5. Breathe
  6. Breathe as in take a deep breath , this is a work of greatness , to be listened to right through , no other band could come up with songs like Cedars ,white as snow and moment of surrender .This collection of songs will grow and develop in a live setting and in a years time people will be embarrassed by their moaning and nit picking of songs.
    So a big thank u to the four guys and lets not forget Brian and Danny too.

    Ahh. Now I see. Nice words
  8. My expectations for this were high (as was everyone's following the longest break between albums) but NLOTH is greatly disappointing. There is no great innovative sound, no lyrics to drool over and no real great anthem to cheer on. Bono has resorted to sloganeering with lyrics that often read as something you'd often expect to see on a car bumper sticker. Edge's chords are nothing new. It didn't take long to recognise the guitar play from the title-track as the near exact same as from 'The Fly'.

    People are describing 'Magnificent' as just that: I say put it in most of the previous albums and it would be seen in the same light as something like 'Walk On' - good, solid but rarely mentioned towards the top end of hits. Much has to do with the lyrics involved. Ultimately we were told of this new sound - but dressing up the same old music with a few bells in the form of synthesizers, Moroccan flutes and & birds singing does not make it a new sound.

    There are no real bad songs but neither are there any stand-out ones. Nothing so catchy as 'Mysterious Ways', nothing as experimental as 'Lemon', nothing as lyrically inspiring as 'One' and nothing in any way or form as good as Streets. I was expecting something as good as 'ATYCLB' but every really good album needs 2/3 or even 4 songs that stand out. This album doesn't really have any. They seemed afraid to push their limit on this one, probably still suffering from self-doubt following Pop. Pop though had some great ideas that weren't polished over. NLOTH has some average idea that have been over-polished. A travesty.
  9. After a lot of listenings, I can determine that the new album is good, but nowhere near what any U2 fan could possibly expect. 4/5 though. I find it ridiculously amusing how Bono seems to believe it's The Joshua Tree-material. ROFFEL!

    For the sake of argument....

    Mysterious Ways = Stand Up Comedy
    Lemon = Being Born
    One = Moment of Surrender
    Streets = Magnificent

    EDIT: I'm not suggesting that these new songs are equal to the classics listed, but simply pointing out that SUC is catchy, BB is experimental, MoS has some inspiring lyrics, and Magnificent has that "U2-ness" to it that Streets does.
