1. Winter sounds good here too, ripped with ImTOO to 192 kpbs. Watched Linear and wasn't impressed either.

  2. The Boots sequence was definitely something, but the Magnificent scene became irritating. I hope they release that in proper form someday.

Boots was good for the males here
  4. I haven't watched it yet, but kudos to the site where you could download it (I bought the digipack version). You have the possibility to either watch or download the entire film, or just a single track. Good quality, fast download speed, and iPod ready, with no annoying DRM attached to the files. No codes as well, which could invoke abuse, you just have to fill in your email and insert the CD

Can you download it multiple times? Sounds amazing

  6. I think you can, unless they've put something on the software from the cd which limits the amount of downloading to 1 time, but that seems unlikely to me, because a download can always fail. If they didn't want it to spread all over the web they would have protected the files itself. Besides, there's also a DVD of the film of course, which is probably widely available now as well.
  7. I've just completed watching the film. Given Corbijn's previous work with the band (videos for One, Please and Electrical Storm), I had hoped it would be an interesting and entertaining. For the most part it failed to satisfy on either of these criteria for me. While the 'Magnificent' portion was amusing and is destined to be a youtube staple for years to come much of the rest of the film was 'art house' in what many fans will view as the worst sense of the term. While the band ought to be applauded for commissioning a project of this sort, and it is clearly no small endeavor to pair a coherent narrative to these tracks, the better parts of film (moments of symbolism that resonate with the songs) are buried amongst long stretches of mind-numbingly repetitive footage. For me this is a well-intentioned misfire. At least we've been given a great album.
  8. I'd agree with PeaceOnEarth's point of view. I'd love to see Magnificent (in better form) released on a DVD.

If you look in the booklet, it says "either you can watch or ignore it, an inessential piece".

So Corbijn (and U2) knew it wasn't going to be to everyone's taste, and adding a little visual addition was a good idea. I like art-house stuff, but this just wasn't all that thrilling. I think if the original song order and concept had been kept from the July version, it would have probably appealed a lot more.

What we had was something that just didn't seem relevant - the scene of Stand Up Comedy was completely questionable. At least they did something different to most, which is a great idea and ought to be lauded for.
  9. The highlight for me, was the stare-off between the guy & girl in the middle of Magnificent, i was hoping they'd meet up during Get On Your Boots for a little "booty" action.
  10. I watched Linear last night, and I must say, it's a nice little accompaniment to the record, however, it seemed to me non-essential viewing. The film, while an interesting digital visual co-efficient, just wasn't relevant to the songs on the record.

I liked the addition of Winter to the film in order for a sort of bonus track, and some of the scenes like the band playing Magnificent in the studio was excellent (as off-putting as it was). Even though it seemed you could use 3D glasses to watch Magnificent in places...you can't.

The peep show of Get On Your Boots leaves something to the imagination - if you want to imagine it again.

Why songs like Stand Up Comedy were suited to the scene they were is completely mind-boggling. It would seem obvious if the film as recorded in July was left as was, it would make more sense for the various scenes. Winter seems to have been one of those songs. Linear should have featured 11 songs not on the record and that could have acted as a bonus CD with outtakes and specially-recorded songs and then release that next EP later in 2009 or early 2010.

Anyway, props to Anton and U2 for trying something different.

    6 / 10.
  11. I personally was highly dissapointed by the Fez/Being Born clip. The lyrics simply scream 'Linear'. 'Finally the atalantic ocean' and 'The engines ROAR'. I expected something pretty cool there. All we see is a man eating a meal
Totally at the wrong point in the movie, should be at the moment he reaches the beach.
    Overall still a 6,5 out of 10
