1. Big fan of Wonderwall, although it might be the most overplayed song in history. (I'm a huge Oasis fan)

On topic: the lyrics for wonderwall would work well, although i think the mood would have to be altered by Bono. Oasis' version of the song is a little to upbeat for moment of surrender i think

    True (first part)

Oh, Bono should slow it down a lot and change pretty much on it But I think it's not impossible
Maybe REM's Everybody Hurts would fit here too...

Or City to City - The Road Ahead Is Empty..(uses the same melody-line)

  4. Yeah, cool song
Would work too, tough I'm not sure about the lyrics..are those any good?
  5. I do not get what's so great about the 'passers by' lyric, seems vague (and people seem to think that means it's deep and meaningful).
Furthermore llike many of the other lyrics is created by the lyric reversal trick, which is twee and a bit lazy. And it's also sung in a very boring and predictable way, unlike the verses.

Since they're going to play this live, they need to make the backing instrumentation and the chorus a whole lot more interesting, perhaps have the Edge's guitar solo actually go somewhere too, rather than just end abruptly.

Is there anything that you enjoy?
It depresses me when I read your posts that a person can be so down all of the time (all of the time being when you post here).

I do enjoy quite a lot of NLOTH. It's a good record, though not perfect.

I also tend to post what I don't like much more than posting what I do like (because other people tend to do the gushing).

Perhaps I also look at songs more critically than most people do.

I'm just trying to balance the opinions on this site, if everyone posted how every U2 song was unbelievably great and above reproach it wouldn't be very interesting now would it.

Seems vague...I'd say make a nice explanation in our 'Meaning of Lyrics Round Table'...I'm sure you'll get to something

And what might not have a meaning for you might have a big meaning to others

This is my Moment of Surrender story.

From the moment it transmitted through my ears and hit my brain, it also hit my heart.
It's the first U2 Song that has ever hit me so close. So close to my heart, my life, it actaully brought me to tears, which has never been done before with a U2 Song.

The day I heard the album was a busy day and I woke up extra early to get the album the day it was released. I remember sitting in the car, parked, listening to this song for the first time. The lyrics penetrated through me, the emotion of Bono's voice was so intense and Edge's guitar so hopeful, yet so full of pain.

    When Bono sings,
"At the Moment of Surrender I did not notice the passers-by and they did not notice me."
This is So Deep, So Pure, So True...
I can relate to this song on many levels and I can connect with the spiritual side of it. Where for me, Well........ I Have had my Own Moment of Surrender.

Then as I read through my copy of Rolling Stone, where the article talks about this song and how Bono recieved the inspiration from AA. It goes on to say that he himself has had to deal with addiction and how Adam has as well. I have had to deal with my own demons and addictions in my life, and so have others in my family.

What I love most about this song is that reminds me of the promise I have to myself and to my God. It also brings the idea that I am not alone, in my life struggles and that the deepest, innermost pain is not just my own. Others have, are now, or are going to experience such things.
There is also hope in this song. Where Bono says, "Vision over visibility", which for me means, 'Don't just see because I can. See what is beyond what is in front of me. The whole picture, Look past what's in front and look foward to what's beyond."

I feel I had to write this, had to get out. My apologies for a long post and for being so sentimental, but this song has a lot of meaning for me and I am very Thankful and Greateful that U2 have the courage to sing and play songs that touch people on such a personal level.
This is why I LOVE this Band!!

Nice post! Even though our feelings towards this song clearly differ, I enjoyed reading this.

    Good response.
  11. I love how bono sings the first couple verses but the solo doesnt do anything for me really ./

  12. Oh, to me that's highlight actually
Loads of feeling in there, very bluesy
    Laid-back, emotional
