1. It doesn't go anywhere though, it's gets abruptly interrupted by the chorus.

And it doesn't sound like Edge, more like Eric Clapton or someone.

Now Unknown Caller, there's a great Edge solo.

Soo? Does every single U2-song have to sound too "edgy"? Would be a bit boring IMO.

How about at least enjoy B-man's vocals in this one?

Well, since Eric Clapton is a better guitarist than Edge I think that's a positive thing...Edge is grading up then
Seriously: I don't think it sounds like Clapton at all and I think we compare it to the solo in Kite. Maybe even to Love Is Blindness (feeling-like)

Agree on Unknown Caller tough, very nice 1,5 minutes solo at the end
But I still like this solo better

Are you saying because it sounds like Eric Clapton it is bad? Are you sayin the eric clapton is bad? Just because it does't sound like the edge doesn't make it bad.
  5. Lol edge and clapton are geniuses in there area of expertise. I too think the solo never "takes off" and ends too soon IMO. No arguing here its just a thought.
  6. MOS = Good song

  7. Correction:
Moment of Surrender = Great song

Its all in 1 take, the vocals are tremendous, the ooh oohs are perfect
    The chorus sounds wonderful.
    Original and moving!

    M0S - 9.5/10

I really don't know how you guys find the chorus 'wonderful'.

I find it as boring as batshit, (the verses are much better)

There's no guitar riff and the rhythm is totally predictable and dull.

Y'know what's awesome about you, Lyndon? You don't beat around the bush at all lol Your lack of BS is awesome, and I mean that
I think it's a ballad, and while some people see that as boring, others may see it as wonderful, it's just one of those polarizing songs.

Thanks Katherine, I don't tend to sugar coat stuff.

My problem with MoS is not that it's a ballad. I like ballads, my favourite U2 songs are ballads.

For example I think White as Snow is one of the best songs of the album.

Now with MoS, I like the verses but the chorus is a real letdown, it seems very Christmas carol-ey and doesn't really gel with the dark, angsty verses. Perhaps they should have gone with 'spoken word' or something more unusual.

The fact that most of the song is quite weak instrumentally (unlike say Winter) doesn't help. I really wonder why they called the song 'gorgeously melodic' cause it doesn't really seem that way to me, It's a description better suited for something like Winter.

I think it would be much better if they had spent more time on it and not just stuck to one take, but perhaps the live version will realise it's potential.

But to me the album version at least, is a good song not a great one.

Quite interesting that you dislike Moment of Surrender's chorus because it sounds like a christmal carol but do like White as Snow which is built around O Come, O Come Emmanuel...

Lol, that is ironic isn't it.

I think WAS's is almost unrecognisable as a Christmas carol (unless you go looking for it), and the ambience suits it's folk song nature.

MOS's chorus is more ATYCLB sounding, like Peace On Earth or something, especially with Bono + Edge singing.
It doesn't quite work for a ballad like MoS which is quite dark.
I find the chorus jarring when it comes in.
