Yeah - I don't think they'll rework Winter & release it on the next album. As far as I know there isn't much of a precedent of releasing a "finished" version of a song after first releasing an "unfinished" one (and personally I don't think Winter is actually unfinshed - I quite like it the way it is).

Anton Corbijn's liner notes to Linear kind-of confirm this when he says that both he & U2 worked on a "solution" to keep the original running order & tracklist after they had dropped Winter from the NLOTH release - my reading of this is that U2 were just happy to let Anton have the song for Linear; so, as such, they've let go of it.

Which is a bit of a shame.
  3. i have been very critical of the NLOTH and GOYB songs. having now listened to the whole album ( disc almost worn out) and Added winter to the play list. i now humbly apoligise for not trusting U2 to produce the goods again. for me NLOTH is a love album, packs a punch here and there some of the melodies are ground breakng almost heart breaking, the edge as always gives a master class, Bonos vocals leave me breathless in places. although not their best i think will transfer well live. Winter i feel should have been included on the album either before Fez or after, a stirring song great vocals and as said before edge is amazing. rol eon the tour.

Yeah, I actually think Winter should have been included on the album as well - I've actually added it to the running order, as I definitely feel it fits with both the mood & feel of the album as a whole. My only problem is in deciding where to put it - at the moment I have it as the last song, and so have put it after Cedars.

Anyone got any better suggestion as to alternative track placement?
  5. If Winter says something about Songs of Ascent, I can't wait.
  6. Does anyone have any idea why the name is "Winter"? : )

  7. Imagine yourself walking in a landscape full of snow and play this song...it works for me. It's not a 'summer-song' to me..like RHCP is not a 'winter-band' in my opinion. I never listen to RHCP in the winter but when the spring starts I start listening to them again.
  8. I added Winter and NLOTH2 and put Stand Up on side 1. This is my order on my I-Pod with Winter. An even better album, and more cohesive on the side 2.

    NLOTH
    Magnificent
    Moment of Surrender
    Unknown Caller
    Stand Up Comedy
    Crazy Tonight

    Get On Your Boots
    Fez-Being Born
    Winter
    White As Snow
    Breathe
    Cedars of Lebanon
    NLOTH2

Cool! Hopefully Winter will appear somewhere as a B-side?

The mystery of taste strikes again I guess
