Simple indeed. But "we" don't need that. The band and record company might need that to achieve certain goals and fulfill certain plans. Unless we're part of the band or record company, all we might need is the album (which we already have) and a tour (which we'll get). We're not them, we're just fans of their music.

  2. I know I shouldn't worry about it but I do.

NLOTH shits all over Only By The Night IMO but the latter has clearly outperformed on the charts.

The Kings have benefited from radio play on almost every "kind" of station and I reckon that helps a lot. They've also backed the album up with a monster tour so hopefully NLOTH can get back up there again later this year.
  3. I just don't hear any songs that really stand out as radio songs off this album.I rate it as my favourite album but unless your into U2 to start with i don't see anyone else getting to excited over it.Unfortunate yes but i think thats the reality of this album. As much as i hate to say it i think that the bands long running success with album sales is on the downslope. They have had a good run at the top but i think they currently sit at 3rd on the ladder as far as bands go.It kills me to say that, but they will always out sell anyone elses tour but album sales is now a different story.Funny enough i had the same thought after POP which is actually my second favourite album.

Breathe will do better, if released as radio-only or as a proper single with a video.

It has that potential...the Linear edit could do for a CD. I don't see Stand Up or Crazy Tonight as great singles. Record sales haven't been that great in the last few years - yes, due to downloading, whether from Amazon, iTunes or wherever else, or the music just isn't that worthy.

To be honest, and I thought of this just the other day playing the album right through, if just any band had released Boots as their first single, I wouldn't have bothered - and I don't bother with a lot of those bands, Kings of Leon, Kaiser Chefs etc, whoever happens to making music now; I just heard about those bands from the last tour. Probably how I feel about most bands releasing new stuff now.

But if Breathe had been released first, I would have given that band, whether established for 30 years or just an indie band starting out a listen. I think most of us know that U2 can afford to release a song that isn't that great because their success is established from the 80s, 90s and the stuff this decade, and whatever album U2 releases goes straight to number one, because of the simple fact it is U2.

    Maybe, maybe not.

They might see the band on YouTube or hear them playing in a record store play list, pick up a copy of the album or the single, and leads to more. Take, for instance, Seasick Steve - some of you might know who he is. I read a little interview in Q Magazine (the U2 one with the 30-page feature), and I had to see what he had to offer - and there you go. So you might discover about them in a magazine.

Indie bands sell because people hear about them from alternative means. Radio is one, yes (digital and online-only), downloads (legit or not), record stores, magazines / newspaper features, concerts etc. Isn't one of those ways how U2 were discovered - in this instance, college radio and pirate radio. Back in the 70s, yes. Maybe not so much today...
  5. I'd have chosen Crazy Tonight as second single - before Magnificient and Breathe. I think it's quite catchy.

Now stone me if you want to.

    I actually agree
Crazy Tonight would become on #1 easier than Magnificent imo Because it's damn sweet lol
    But I love it nonthereless

Yes, basically everyone I play the album too, usually pick out Crazy Tonight as a standout (at least on first listens).

It does have a BD vibe to it, though is rather more cheesy. Maybe like a BD/WITS hybrid song.

    Heh, no generalisations here =P

I agree with Drew, I think Breathe would probably have been the better lead single - I think it's musically much more interesting, not to mention all-in-all a better song in my opinion, but I also reckon that it's probably the most representative song on the album in that (to me) it's unlike anything they've ever done before but it's indefinably U2ish. The other candidates (GOYB, I'll Go Crazy..., Magnificent etc.) would have worked well as follow-ups to it methinks.

    Just my tuppence' worth
  9. My choice of single's would be in order.
    1.Magnificent
    2.Breath
    3.Crazy
    4.Unknown Caller
  10. THE FIRST SINGLE SHOULD BE NO LINE ON THE HORIZON

  11. Stop screaming please. My ears hurt.

NLOTH could be a good single choice if properly mixed. Right now it's a wall of muddy fuzz distortion with the drums blurred and buried in the background. On the radio it would only turn casual listeners off. NLOTH2 would be a better single choice than the album version.

My 0,02$, as always. No offence intended.

    lol

And I agree NLOTH 2 would work better then, it's easier to listen to.
