  1. Despite the fact that I thought GOYB was utter tosh, I bought it on the day of release and was pleasantly surprised by NLOTH2, which I thought right then would have made a better single. Oh well, what's done is done. Someone at U2 cocked up big time there. Breathe and IGCIIDGCT would also make great singles. Perhaps they could shorten the title to "Crazy Tonight", like Franz Ferdinand did with Dark Of The Matinee (i.e. Matinee).
  2. Here's an idea.
    Release Magnificent, then stop wasting time and money with releasing unsuccesfull singles. This album simply doesn't contain any singles, clear as that.
    No singles, album becomes forgotten and we, the diehard fans, will always remember it as the album where U2 wasn't all commercial and really cared about the music.
    Do a nice collaboration with KOL, Muse or whatever band, earn some money from that and they're done for the next 4 years.

    But if you wanna keep seeing U2 making fools of themselves with singles that are dropping down the charts before they're even in it, video clips that are just 'meh' and cheesy single edits, sure, good for you. But I'll pass for that, I don't wanna see U2 become a parody of themselves.

    Breathe, Magnificent, Crazy, SUC could all be epic singles. I liked the GOYB video. Single edits take away artistic vision, but are necesary to attract a wider audience. Once that audience is reached, they will buy the complete album. If no singles or edits are produced, the album will not sell any more, the fans have already bought it. While you may think that people attracted to an album by a single are foolish, that is the way the music industry works. U2 will not be a parody, the complete abum will not be tarished by cheesy edits.

    Well this might be the U2-album that is the most radio-unfriendly they've made so far, but that doesn't mean they can pull of some good singles. Magnificent, Breathe and Stand Up Comedy or I'll Go Crazy are all amazing tunes, and I think the fans would like to buy singles too.

    I like the GOYB-video. I like the song. It's U2s new sound, U2 showing their guts again, after two playing-safe albums. General radio-listeners don't like it very much maybe, but they had to gamble with this one. I'm really sure the other two singles could become hits if they promote it decently, which they did with GOYB (but the overall sound of the song is not U2-ish enough for the general listener), and which they didnt with Magnificent (ok, not released yet, but here in Holland it won't become #1 anymore). The clip will be cool, I'm sure of that.

    And a colloboration with KOL or Muse? Then I would cringe. Green Day one was decent, but I don't like to see another one (only if they colloborate with Bruce Springsteen).

    Oh and I would love to see Moment Of Surrender released a single. Won't happen, I know.

    A band needs singles to get airplay and thus promotion for theyre album over a longer time, not just for one month or so.

    @ Dieder: I know they need airplay, because they're so commercial and all. But it just would be great if they didn't release anything. Because now they're gonna turn into the band that lost it's magic and only brings out mediocore singles. Not even Breathe or Magnificent come close to BD or Vertigo, as in being easy listening.

    Unsuccessful or not, I think the promotion for this album is quite bad tbh
    Even if Boots got some spotlight with all the music awards shows
    But that was more too promote the album and first single of it

    Every band is commercial these days. Lost it's magic? Mediocre singles? These songs are one of the best ever made, it just sounds less mainstream than ATYCLB and HTDAAB, so it's quite logical the songs won't become a big hit like BD.

    Well there is your argument there, you don't think the album is easy listening. I disagree. White Light/White Heat is what I call hard-to listen to, not NLOTH. I think anyone can enjoy it if they can sit through a 5 minute song.
