1. It's horrible. Sounds like a cat being strangled, and I don't think it's the actual audio soundtrack either...

Portland 2005 and Chicago 21st September were much better Sarajevo performances.
  2. I don't think so...his singing is by no means "advanced".
  3. His singing is not exceptional good or bad. The main reason i like to listen to his singing has more to do with the feelings and emotions he can give the song. That is also the reason why I really can't stand most of his covers of other songs.
  4. I agree his singin is not advanced however ppl might take in consideration his been singin for 30 years
Some band come back in big reunion concert and everyone think its great
And of course it is because theirs been plenty of rest for those bands with no recording songs etc.
Of course his voice wont sound the same anymore
Drinkin, smoking and touring take its toll on any singers voice
Opera bit is aquired taste some hate it some love it
While his voice isnt what it used too be, I would say JT/RT was his peak for me
    Zoo tv wasnt bad either
But for what his done during these 30 years his one of the greatest for me
Besides could be alot worse, I dont think his voice is THAT bad as some like too think

  5. The man is right. I don't want to get in discussion because I'm already tired of all threads related to Bono's voice.

You can say whatever you want but Australian/NZ/Japan leg of Vertigo was pure magic.

On the other hand - Sarajevo. With broken voice he did his best performance of Please ever.

It's not that much about voice, but about emotions, and the feeling that you are the only person that he sings for when you listen to him.

And he did fantastic work on the new album.

Agree with you and with Yogi
And for those interested: I think Bono started to sing best after 1991. His voice now is brilliant. Miss Sarajevo shows it. COBL shows it. Beautiful Day shows it. etc. etc. etc
  7. Bono's usually hits the right notes. He's got an instantly recognizable voice. He's also capable of giving it a lot of expressional versatility. He kind of invented his own singing style. But in a strictly technical way he's most likely no better than quite okay - not premier league. IMHO he does with his voice what Edge does with his guitar. Creativity, personality, emotion, signature style, interesting stuff instead of first rate technical virtuosity.

He's also a great frontman with charisma, wit, charm and humor - which makes him a great entertainer. Plus he's a leading figure in a lot of charity stuff which makes him a lot more than that.

Alex...how come your posts are always so brilliant?

  9. I call that passion..he would have nailed MOS even more with his Zoo-voice, I think.

  10. Some might say that's the presence of the Holy Spirit in me...

Others are known to completely disagree with me on most topics.

Thank you for the nice words.

  11. Hey Alex

I agree with most of your response but I have some questions, i mean, how can Bono not be one of the all time best, technically speaking?

    - Operatic voice, with very high registers like Wire, Pride, Bad, ASOH, One Tree Hill, WOWY, Hawkmoon 269, LRM, God Part II( many of this notes are extremely dificult and high)

    - Then you have the falsetto in the 90's, very high at some points, overall technically very good.

    - Low voice which is extremely dificult to pull off.

    - And some opera snippets I don't see many singers do( Miss Sarajevo, SYCMIOYO)

I seriously doubt there are artist capable of pulling so many styles in a career and ultimately do stuff that Bono has done, at least in his all time greatest years(84-89)

What do you think? ( for all of you of course)

P.S - Excuse me for my english, I'm portuguese and I'm new here
