Drew, I don't see how you can rank Zooropa so high and Achtung Baby so low. What do you like about Zooropa, and what don't you like about Achtung Baby?

Just wandering, not criticising ... as mine was:

    1. Achtung Baby
    12. Zooropa

Since I have the pretty much the same as Drew I think I can answer your question too

Zooropa is just genuis, it's pure art.
The lyrics are brilliant. Also, it's the sound of a band in the middle of a big tour, and therefore on fire. It goes on where AB ends, and makes the trance-influences complete. Bono's voice is beautiful. Adam's basslines are running through this record, more than on other albums imo. Edge does some artistic stuff with his guitar, I think he plays it better on Zooropa than on a regular album with regular songs. Larry's drumming is always good of course
I think that Zooropa is (one of the) only albums where ALL band members are on fire and they ALL fit together. It's a great mix of different ideas and different thoughts.
Also, Zooropa is something never done before. Some claim that AB is that, but no way Zooropa is the techno one, not AB. AB is an okay record, but, for me, I feel it's too general. All very nice tunes, but they don't work on the album. They're fantastic live, I even think AB is the best live album, but the studio version of (most of) the songs are not that good. Just listen to for instance TTTYAAT. Compare that to...Some Days...Daddy's Gonna Pay and The First Time...pure looking at the album version those Zooropa tracks win easily

    Just my thoughts obviously

    Update:

    1. The Joshua Tree
    2. Achtung Baby

    4. Rattle And Hum
    5. Under A Blood Red Sky

    8. No Line On The Horizon
    9. Zooropa

It's not that I dislike the first three albums, I love those. But the later albums are just better to me.

I miss half of their career lol HTDAAB

  5. Feck you're right. Such an 'forgettable' album to me. Put it on the 10th place then, the rest goes down for one place.

Cool, ok i see what you are saying and all that gives me a good reason for liking Zooropa, I didn't dislike it in the first place, its just my least favourite.

I think that every single song on AB is better than DGPFYCC. One, UTEOTW, Acrobat, Ultraviolet, WGRYWH and EBTTRT are way way way better than DGPFYCC. That's my opinion. and TTTYAATW is the worst song on the album. I think only Dirty Day and Stay would get on to AB.But you know, I can see why you would like it.
  7. Talkin' about Zooropa. It's ranked quite low in my top list, which says nothing about the quality. It's brilliant, but just for the mood I'm in. It's short of course too (I know first plan was to bring it out as LP). Songs like Zooropa, Lemon, Dirty Day, Stay and particurlary The Wanderer are pure class but as a whole album it doesn't strike me that well like for example The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby do.

Opinions are so beautiful at times
To make clear: AB is still a masterpiece to me obviously I love it yes

  9. True. But until i see of survey of every living person who's heard the album declaring it unanimously awful, I'll stick to my guns that it's actually a decent album.

    1. Achtung Baby (MW, One, UTEOTW)
    2. The Joshua Tree (ISHFWILF, Streets, Exit)
    3. Pop (Please, SATS, Discotheque)
    4. War (NYD, Drowning Man, Surrender)
    5. NLOTH (Breathe, Fez, Magnificent)
    6. TUF (ASOH, Wire, Pride)
    7. HTDAAB (LAPOE, Vertigo, COBL)
    8. Boy (Stories for Boys, ATAP, The Electric Co.)
    9. ATYCLB (Beautiful Day, Wlak On, Kite)
    10. October (Tomorrow, Gloria, Rejoice) (low ranking doesn't mean it's not good, just that the others are better )
    11. R&H (Heartland, Desire, AIWIY)
    12. Zooropa (Dirty Day, Stay, The Wanderer)

    Other tracks:
80s: Treasure, Love Comes Tumbling, Dancing Barefoot
90s: Alex Descends, LWTSH (UV1), Holy Joe (Garage Mix)
    00s: TGBHF, Fast Cars, THTBA
  10. How on earth can Zooropa be their worst...

WOW!!!! That is basically the same as mine!!!!

  12. Doesn't connect with me for some reason. I don't get the same feeling I get when I listen to every other album, the same feeling that got me into U2 in the first place. There's a distance between the Zooropa songs and my reactions to them that's not present on the other albums, if that makes sense. Maybe it's just a matter of time. I haven't given up on it.

    You have excellent taste!
Although you may want to reconsider your Pop ranking...
