    Thats how i feel about Zooropa too. And I do like Pop, loads, its really grown on me loads but there is a couple of songs at are not very good to me, The Playboy Mansion and Miami, to me are not great. But I do love Pop!!

    It was the first U2 album I sat down and listened through all the way through, and it just struck some chord with me. All the ideas of like searching for something without truly knowing what it is really connected with me, and for that reason it's one of my favourite to me, War always feels like it's someone with really strong feelings just like shouting at everyone. I know there's some very powerful material such as Sunday Bloody Sunday with real feeling and emotion pouring out, but I mean Like A Song (a song I absolutely love on a musical level) just seems to like an angry man trying to express himself without being completely sure what it is he's expressing. I dunno, it's all opinion at the end of the day

    totally agree about War on a political level, a strong album and a completment to the others that it is so low on the list, i've always been move attached to music that relates to me personnally than on a political level.
    i might sit down with my ipod, October and a hot chocolate to see if that helps me understand that album abit more, I appreciate Boy more for it.

    You really need time to appreciate the genius and the flaws in it (and there's more than plenty). I think it's an album showing four guys not having an idea of what they went into the studio for, and just recording whatever they play and some of the tracks come out beautifully from not trying.

    It was the first one I listened to right through as well. 50% of War is potentially classic and the other 50% is what I can skip through. But October...every track just seemed appealing and demanding a listen right through. Like the way Thick As A Brick is to me, and Chinese Democracy.

    But it seems the real problem is they have no idea what they're singing about at one time, then the next comes a brilliant line with so many meanings. I wonder if the artwork puts people off...I know at one stage it did for me, and Pop had the same effect. But they're both brilliant pieces of art that U2 don't seem to acknowledge as.

    It goes to show not trying, having hardly any time and four guys who supposedly don't have a clue to what they're doing can make something great. The only tracks on it that I couldn't be arsed listening to over and over would be Scarlet and Is That All. The rest - With A Shout is the highest-played track on my iPod playlist.


  6. Opinions....I have it ranked low as well...For me songs like Babyface, Lemon, SomeDays are just awful imho. I like the album but I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it.

  8. Yeah, Zooropa is definitely one of their best albums, I just realised the other day how many songs I like off Zooropa (7) which is more than the number I like off the JT.

    And on top of this is the sheer innovation present on the record.

    I really hope Songs of Ascent is like it. But I have my doubts, that they can match its subtlety, they seem to be rather ham-fisted these days in their approach to their music.
  9. If Songs of Ascent is up to the standard of Moment of Surrender, No Line On The Horizon, Fez-Being Born, Winter, Cedars of Lebanon and White As Snow, then it might well be a piece of truly exceptional art and great visionaries.
