  3. I haven't seen the new video in full yet, but i agree that the Magnificent segment on Linear is pretty cool. And what i've seen of the new video isn't.

    What happened to Alex and Courtes? the Vertigo clip was amazing. Why does nearly everything relating to NLOTH (apart from the album itself) pale in comparison to HTDAAB, is it the global financial crisis or something?

    Oh well, at least the single is doing well in Poland.

    As long as it's doing well in Poland, that's all that matters now...we can all rest easier now knowing the Polish like it. That's a sign of true success.
  6. I don't really care about charts and stuff, but there's one thing I don't really understand. Magnificent was played to death before it came out on single. They actually skipped Boots after 2 weeks and started to play Magnificent. But, the general public didn't really like it regarding the song never breached into the top 15 of the national top 40. And now it's released on single..things don't get better.

    So why did the radio stations start to play it? They must have thought it had some promising future...but it seems they were the only one to think so. A good promotional single release, moments after Boots failure, would have been good.

    Spot on. I am reminded of 1981 when The Police released "Invisible Sun", a controversial song in a shite sleeve, and that "only" got to number 2, a huge disappointment. Just four weeks later they put out "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" and hey presto, normal service resumed with a number one.

    I cannot begin to describe how frustrated I am with U2's latest "marketing" campaign.

  9. Ok ok, I was exaggerating, it wasn't amazing, but it was definitely one of their better video clips, in terms of visuals. The imagery was distinct and suited the song well.

    Look at the album cover. That shows something experimental and different, and the video clip mirrors that. I haven't seen white sheets covering a city before in a video clip, and that was definitely interesting.

    Pity the song is still the worst since Red Light.

  12. It just doesn't interest me in the slightest - whatever the appeal is; how does it remind people of vintage U2? Give me Levitate any day. The only thing I can credit it with is the mixing.


    Crap Radio Edit + Vertigo + Get On Your Boots Remix = Magnificent Fail


    Magnificent should have been put aside for the next album and replaced with Winter or Every Breaking Wave (see, Eno had the right idea). Go from a four-minute track straight into six-plus minutes and then to seven minutes with Moment of Surrender, which is another brilliant piece of work. I prefer Boots, Stand Up Comedy and Crazy Tonight over Magnificent.

    The first four songs make a great record, the next three kind give it a nice rock style and reinforce the idea that U2 is still a rock band and then the last three (four, if you're like me) bring it all back to a great piece of work overall.
