It can't really be counted in this discussion, its not a song.

I think any discussion on best and worst song should stick to album tracks, cos b-sides, remixes and rarities just open up a pandora's box of choices. And the band may never have intended people to take such tracks seriously.

For once you've actually made a good point.

Let's stick to album tracks please.

  2. It does! It's a top 10 song for me. Especially the live version.

It only clicked with me last year after 15 years of trying. I used to dismiss it too. Got into a very heated debate about it with my brother-in-law once actually.

I was going through a really tough time. Maybe that's what made it click.

Ah well, all just opinion. There's plenty more to choose from.

  3. I've known for some time that you didn't like these songs. I didn't, however, know that you could compare them to Red Light.

    I'm officially
  4. Best : Stay

Shit : Stand Up Comedy, Magnificent, All I Want Is You

  5. You forgot ATYCLB and HTDAAB from your shit list ...........

Now you do. I could list a few more. Which are:

    Elevation
    New York
    Vertigo
    Love and Peace or Else
    All Because of You
    Shadows and Tall Trees
    Ito Okashi
    Corpse
    Fire
    Rejoice
    Scarlet
    Is That All
    Elvis Ate America
    Love Rescue Me
    Like A Song
    The Refugee
    Wave of Sorrow
    Rise Up
    Drunk Chicken
    Speed of Life
    Saturday Night

Every single remix from The Best of 1990 - 2000, Summer Rain, Trash, Trampoline and The Party Girl.

One to me is what Elevation was to All That You Can't Leave Behind.
  7. LOL... I'm seriously considering the idea of selling out your BCN1 ticket... xD

Certainly, it is not the best U2 outtake by far (that goes to Levitate) but it has real meaning, depth and is truly something which you just can't expect from U2.

I guess it was giving a hint as what was to come later on in the near future (Window In The Skies, Father Christmas, Moment of Surrender, Breathe etc). Even though it's a short song like those mentioned, it has potential to be a classic and even a masterpiece, but not in it's current form. I actually think Breathe is Mercy, and from comments here, Interference and atu2, then I agree with those people.

Listen closely to the introduction, the middle guitar reverb with the drums and the lyrics, the style of each vocal, compare each song (Mercy first, Breathe second) on different instrumental attributes and it is there. Lanois and Lillywhite (more so I'd think) and Eno (not so much) would have loved it because it had 'something', even though it's straight-up, in-your-face rock.

So when someone asks one of the band members to play Mercy on the tour, they have, knowingly to themselves, but unbeknown to the person.

Interesting thoughts here Drew, you could be right, some real deep thinking and understanding! Wicked, well done mate

Lemon is one of their all time great, lyrics, singing, atmosphere, Edge's cascading guitar it has everything. If you find the album version too long, listen to the single edit, if you find the studio versions too dull listen to their scintillating Sydney 93 performance.

I got it on my 5th listen, but my friend absolutely hated it and i pestered him to keep listening to it until he got it. It took him two weeks but he now likes the song.

And why does everyone hate Magnificent so much? It may be overrated, but their worst song ever? that's harsh.
I thought something from one of their early albums would take the wooden spoon.

  10. Best Studio-Love is blindness/Moment of surrender
    Best live-Bullet the blue sky(Rattle&Hum)/The fly(U23D)

    worst studio-MIAMi
    Worst live-Vertigo(Cannes)

I hate tht version toooo much
  11. Okay ehm

Best studio - Beautiful Day/Electrical Storm...maybe Cedars Of Lebanon
Best live - Dirty Day, honourable mention of Miami

Worst studio - Red Hill Mining Town
Worst live - Tell me why they ever decided to play Fire live? lol
Oh, and All Because Of You...dreadful

  12. Big up Promenade! My favourite also. Brings back great memories.
Worst song - don't know there's quite a few forgetable ones.
