I like the new album a lot myself, but it's not a new Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby, which I believe even most U2 fans can agree on. Comercially though, it's not as successful as the two previous albums.

    I agree

Yep - rock n roll singers tyically destroy their voices (Bowie, Lour Reed etc. - everyone apart from Sting...). We're getting close to the end I'm afraid. Songs like Breathe look good on the CD, but Bono is out of breath(e) when he sings them live. Not to mention Vertigo. Not sure it's gonna come back.
  3. His voice was pretty good until the David Letterman performances. At Fordham it was ok, as was Somerville.
  4. It was pretty much OK on Vertigo acoustic.

Well, he can do slower songs then. And of course, you've always got Pro-Tools to save the day...which I think Breathe makes use of, heavily.

Not so sure on Auto-Tune, though.
  6. On Letterman,Bono with crazy tonight, and beautiful day sounded strong. He sounded like he had a cold with Magnificent but still hit that note on the last only love. So I'm still very confident in him. Oh and sting can't sing great anymore by the way and he sounds old at times. Plus The Edge is a better nickname.
  7. I won't make this thread a spoiler one too, but I can say that Bono is sounding GREAT on the rehearsals. Very clean and strong voice. For those who are interested and who don't mind having their surprise spoiled out, there is a spoiler topic about the rehearsals going in Barcelona here.
  8. His voice was incredibly good at some occasions of the Promo Tour. Some of the performances it sucked though, as usual. <3
  9. Im goin 4 the Soul~the Feel~ the Words~ the Muzik~ I dont care if hiz voice crax like desert sand~
but then im a singer and I understand how hard it can B 2 liv up 2 otherz expectationz~
I have no doubts that if ure open 2 it the message and power will B fealt
  10. Hi All,

I can't bealive some of the things i m reading about Bono's voice!
Bono's voice is not the same voice he once had, say Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum or even Zoo Tv..As a fan of U2 for over 18 years, it's hard to hear Bono Sing live sometimes. That strength/power he once had in his voice has gone!!! When I hear songs like Unforgettable Fire or Bad, Sunday Bloody Sunday, it lacks that passion he once had! That's my 5 cents worth!
  11. Recenctly, Bono's voice has been very good. I was totally amazed by his voice at the first shows of the tour. He's very much in control now and has a very warm, melodic voice, not as scratchy as it used to be. I guess he got some proper training. I prefer Bono as a real "singer" much more than hearing him just shout the lyrics out. I think he pretty much did damage to his voice with the (wrong) way he used to sing for so many years. Right now he sounds very good and has been improving in recent years. He doesn't have the same voice he had in the early years, but he's older now, the voice changed and he learned how to sing. He can do a lot with his voice now and I was really surprised at the recent concerts I've been to. I hope he takes care and it will be like that for a long time.
  12. I'm now listening to the last U2 concert, 12th of October. Bono's voice is very much there, the show seems great. I have the impression that if he sings once every three days or so like he is now, he manages to preserve his voice much better.

When there are shows for 2 or 3 nights in a row, plus TV appearances, with the rehearsals etc., then it starts fading away.

But overall, I think this tour can reassure fans: U2 are still now the immensely great band they were at the beginning of the 90's, thanks to Bono's voice too. And to a truly great album. The new songs are great live - in my opinion, possibly the best live songs since AB.

The Pop era was great too. But Breathe, Magnificent, and Moment of Surrender are, for me, among the best U2 live moments ever.
