First up, I got my first tattoo on Tuesday, the exact one year anniversary of my injury. While I was in the hospital, I listened to a lot of music, but listened to "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley several times a day, usually in the morning before my therapies, and at the end of the day after everyone went home. The chorus really spoke to me: "Don't worry, about a thing. Cause every little thing is gonna be alright."

    So, here's my tattoo:

Second, I completed a 5k hike through a local vineyard today with some very close friends cheering me on. I walked most of the way, but did manage to jog across the finish line. Quite an amazing feat when you think that I couldn't even wiggle my toes a year ago. Enjoy!

Being relatively new to u2 start and not being around when this happened to you let me say your recovery really is inspirational as is the mass outpoor of positive thoughts and wishes from the community that occurred in response. Congratulations on your recovery and your progress, and everyone who was with you throughout your recovery should be proud of their gracious support and affection
  2. This is a truly inspiring story! Hope everything is going well haytrain
  3. Nice Jeremy, very good achievement
    What an inspiration you are
  4. Just caught up with this mate. Can't believe it's been a year........

I'm not a tattoo man, but that design is fantastic and obviously speaks of a truly personal and emotional journey.

    As for the walk/jog.

    Well.

    Just - wow

Enjoy every single second of your trip to Ireland next month. You deserve it.

On Monday, we had a national holiday here in the US, and I decided to take a surfing lesson at a local beach. Things went really well, although during one of my rides, I felt some minor back pain when I stood up on my board. I thought "oh, that will give me a backache tomorow" and continued surfing for about 45 minutes. After our lesson, I started feeling pain in my legs, so I headed home. On the drive, my legs went numb and we had to go straight to the hospital. I've been at the hospital ever since, and the doctors have diagnosed me with a very rare problem called surfer's myelopathy. As of now, I have no movement or feeling in my lower torso. I can't walk or stand up, and while there's a chance of recovery, there's a chance it could be permanent as well.

Here's where my 2 requests come in....First, I ask if you're religious, you say a prayer for my health. If you're not religious, I'd still appreciate some good thoughs coming my way. Second, if anyone has any uplifting or good songs (U2 or otherwise) for me to listen to during my days sprawled out on my hospital bed, send them my way. (I've tried to listen to Walk On and Streets from Slane, but I end up in a ball of tears.)

    Thanks all!
    Jeremy

Prayers coming your way. I hope that you are better and soon.

  6. Dude the post you quoted was over a year ago. Pop back a page or two from this one to see how far Jeremy has come.

    Kudos for the sentiment though
  7. Thanks for the well-wishes everyone. Its been an amazing year.

And what a better way to celebrate than to fly to Ireland to see the boys play at Croke Park!?

  11. Kind of a special day for me today: 2 years ago on July 30, I walked out of the hospital after spending 8 weeks there as a paraplegic.
