1. The Unforgettable fire was great to come back but I really don't like Bono was doing to the song. It seemed like he changed it because he couldn't sing parts of it. The same thing also happened in other songs. His falsetto is getting shockingly weak for songs that he never had problems with before. He can still do it, but it sounds like it's a lot of effort to get going, and even then, it's not fully complete. Don't get me wrong, Bono's singing in general was great, but I just think his falsetto has been sounding worser than during the Vertigo tour and Elevation tour.

I agree too, obviously I wasn't there but I absolutely loved that whine that preceded the drums kicking in - to me, I was assuming that Edge was obliterating some mean feedback but whatever it was, it kicked arse after COBL and as a lead in Vertigo, wow. Please say that's how Vertigo's gonna come in from now on, and not just a one-off for Barca...

EDIT - I don't mind the remix, it's something different and a bit of fun on-stage, but whether it has a long term future? We'll see. I would like to see a traditional version of it make the tour, but hell we'll just have to wait and find out what they do.
  3. Get On Your Boots was a bit different too... No more Sexy Boots... and the little solo from Edge was played a bit different (better) too
  4. Originally posted by yeah:Now that I've listened to the first recordings, MoS sounds a little better than I thought during the gig. Still a bad closer, though. Vertigo works surprisingly good, seems to be a favourite in Spain. I still think that the opening misses some punch and that the "Crazy" remix is one of the most embarrassing U2 moments ever.
Next ones Paris or A'dam... Still undecided.

I'd go for Paris then, A'dam with that echo..as they say

I dunno, Bono tried the 'Stay'-parts in falsetto but quickly changed to scream them afterwards. He can sing them, he needs to have some guts.
  6. If Bono doesnt go for UF with some balls then it cant stay in the set. The screen though during the song. Unreal.

WOWY needs buried. Worst performance ever. Bono just swinging the mic and blatantly not feeling the song at all. I didn't join in once throughout the entire song. Just failed to catch me.
  7. Yeah that's what I mean. Plus the falsetto 'In a little while' was not so good, as was the little solo falsetto at the end of With or Without you. However the falsetto at the end of One was surprisingly good. I just don't get Bono's voice sometimes lol. I just wish he'd practice the falsetto more again I suppose, because for some songs it's integral. Unless he can find better ways to replace the use of falsetto, I stand by my love of the 'falsetto'. Ultraviolet was a good example of the song still rocking without the falsetto, because they made up for it in other ways.

Me too, it just comes across as the band exposing their considerable vintage once more.
It's a pity seeing how good their previous live renditions of Crazy Tonight were (see Letterman).

I thought so too! It sounded great on that rehearsal footage, despite the crappy muffled recording from outside the stadium.

BTW what's that bassy, percussive sounding instrument they added to the live mix? Is it just Edge's guitar ?

The loss of his previously impressive falsetto skills is probably down to his heavy smoking unfortunately.

Yeah, I noticed both of those too, its funny how omitting one cringeworthy line can make a song better.

I really need to listen to the rest of the concert, I want to see how badly they fucked up One and WOWY, on opening night too!
  10. listened to the crazy tonight remix 3 times again today and I love it can't wait to hear it on my 2 concerts, I'll definitely be jumping and dancing to this!

didn't listen to wowy yet, was it that awful? did like in a little while though although he changed the end.

I'm curious to see whether there will be any changes in the setlist tonight already.

I guess that maybe Drowning Man or Bad wil make an appearance tonight
Tough I doubt it, they'll probably try to get used to this format first...

BTW Does anyone know of there might been any rehearsals last night? Just a thought...
  12. Ok, so I get that it was hot, queing could have been better organised and that some songs were a little under-rehearsed (or first night nerves). 2 of those out of U2's control and the other one perfectly understandable.

I also get that we die-hards are fed up with Pride and WOWY. But if you read the popular press reviews, both are listed as highlights. Hey ho.

What I really want to know and what very few are saying, bar Ger's comments on the screen during COBL and TUF, is how is the show? Is it - wow! - or just ok? Back to the impact and hunger of ZooTV or Pop or a slightly more inventive Vertigo?

Will it make this the best tour of the year, or will the likes of Coldplay, Take That or Oasis top it? (Or Muse at the end of the year). It may be too early to say and I guess how much setlist variation there is tonight (plus hopeful tightening of some of those performance glitches) will have an impact.

Oh yeah. I blew staying in the dark btw.....
