1. I just wanted to open a discussion about 'Sometimes you can't make it on your own'.

I think it's the most personal song bono/u2 have done, and the way Bono introduces this song by talking about his father. I bet many people across the world were moved by it and contacted a loved one who they had distanted themselves from.

Even the title is great- sounds like fatherly advise. I know many people when talking about u2 lyrics they think about One, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride etc but this song lyrically is up there with the best.

Any thoughts about this song? music, lyrics, anything?
  2. Everyone I know loves this song, even if they're not into U2 at all. Both the music and the lyrics are great. It's like everybody has a realtionship with at least one person in his/her life like in the song, like the song was written about them.
  3. It's an absolutely beautiful song, maybe one of the most emotional next to Kite.

And I now have 89 posts to go until the big 1000 as well.
  4. I love the song, it's one of the most personal songs from Bono after MOFO.
  5. Great song. There's so much emotion in it...Words can't describe it for me.
  6. Well it was song of the year so it must be good

And well yeah personally i think it's very personal and beautiful,
like Dirty Day, Mofo and Lemon.
  7. Indeed a great song, helped me a lot when I went through rough times..

one of the songs that made me really appreciate Bono's writing.
  8. Even though my mother is still alive it just reminds me of our reatlionships sometimes. HEr and I went through at lot together. Thank you Bono and U2.
  9. in the early mix bono sings
When I was a young boy
    In the suburb of Cedarwood
is this where he lived as a boy?

  12. Yeh, I agree, this is a fabulous song. Very touching. Go through a tough time and it'll ring very true. Same with Walk On

    And I know it aches
    And your heart it breaks
You can only take so much
