  1. "two bad albums and we're finished":bono

    I'm going to see U2 on Saturday in Croker. I'm sure it will be a great show despite the fact that it will only be U2-270 due to Hill 16. I've heard some of the remastered bootlegs from Berlin and am really looking forward to hearing Unforgettable Fire and UltraViolet which I've never heard live in person before. I'm also looking forward to the whole Crazy Tonight production. The Youtube coverage of the Barca gig looked like the band we're genuinely into it and not at all self conscious, so I'm hoping to enjoy that too. That said, the sound of the songs from NLOTH or 'No Tunes on The Horizon' as The Irish Times called it today, don't raise expectations too high. The 'Crazy' video isn't too objectionable despite PitchFork's (surprise surprise) slamming, but that said. We can't get away from the fact that 'I'll go crazy' is an awful mess of a song perfectly representative of a mess of an album, all over the place, with few decent tunes.

    As a long time U2 fan, It makes me sad.

    NLOTH is a great recording, best since POP, and songs from it sound just insanely good played live.

    NLOTH (song) is one of the best songs to perform live by U2, so is MOS.

    Crazy Tonight is the new Discotheque. Stop listening to journalistic farts and listen to the music.

    And as Nick pointed out, I believe thats a discussion thats done already tbh...most like it, some dont. As is the deal with every album, right?
  7. I will say that i was a bit disappointed as well. What was being hyped as 'the next Achtung Baby' fell short for me, as well. IMO, NLOTH is even more "commercial" than HTDAAB. That being said, some people will like it, while others will not. We all have a right to an opinion. I'm not going to a fanboy though, I'll be honest. I wish U2 would stop putting out albums that don't have any depth to them (ATYCLB, HTDAAB, NLOTH). If you look at AB for example, it is anything BUT radio friendly. I would love for the boys to return to that sound/style. Will it ever happen? Probably not. Never say never, though....

    AB is more radio-friendly than NLOTH...

    That song might be more radio-friendly than the rest of their catalog, combined. lol

    I will say this is good discussion though... And I guess i don't mean "radio friendly" as far as chart ratings. By radio-friendly, I mean, to me, NLOTH sounds a little cheesy and over-produced. AB's more obscure songs don't sound like that to me (Ultraviolet, Acrobat, etc...)

    I'm sure the show willl be great and hope the sound in Croker does them justice.
    Now, I'll go look for that window back up to my place in the sky.

    Wow...we totally disagree on that, probably their least radio-friendly song of the past 20 years lol...
    If it was radio-friendly it wouldnt have failed in pretty much every country in the world, would it?

    But indeed, I guess we mean something totally different with radio-friendly...
    Magnificent is cheesy, the rest of the songs arent.
    And I dont hear overproduction, except for maybe Magnificent.
    But wait till 360 passed America, you'll understand then
