  2. they are usually in .flac format. a lossless format usually has better sound quality, as in order to create a mp3 file the music file has to be compressed, meaning a loss of data. they are also much bigger than mp3s. most .flac files are around 50 mb

    does the compression have any noticeable effect on the quality? Because I compress audio files I rip from cd's down to .mp3 format and they seem to sound just as good to my "naked" ear.
  4. in depends i suppose. high quality Mp3s (320) are quite good, i definately agree with you on hearing. the main difference that i hear are bettween really shitty mp3s (64) and the good one mp3s. I generally dont notice the difference otherwise between .flac and high quality mp3s. then again im not audio guru

    edit: from what my brother just told me, most lossless music files generally sound more crisp and one can hear subtle things in the songs more clearly
