1. currently, I have an old samsung mobile phone I got for my 16th bday. my 21st is approaching in a couple of weeks, so I guess a new one is finally in order

my parents said I could check the web and see what might interest me. they didn't set any price, but I'd say 250€ would be quite enough. though, looking at the big variety of phones I'm a little lost now.

    what I'm looking for:
    - at least 8mp camera
    - video/mp3 function
    - brand doesn't matter. sony, blackberry, nokia, whatever..
    - wi-fi/internet not necessary, neither is a touch screen (but hey, would be cool)

can't think of more than that, I'm not exactly a mobile phone expert, but I'm counting on you guys any suggestions would be very aprpeciated.
  2. 8MP is a little extreme. You are talking proper high end there.

Nokias N82 can be picked up cheap. It runs at 5MP but with amazing results and a Xenon Flash.

Samsungs INNOV8 is another that may do the trick but a little pricey perhaps
  3. The amount of megapixels says almost nothing about quality. So like Gerard I'd advice you to look at 5MP camera's as well.

The lenses and sensors on mobile phones are so small that the amount of megapixels is not really important. Its a lot better to have a 3MP phone which has little noise and better colors in difficult circumstances The amount of pixels are interesting commercially for the brands because most people think 'The Higher The Better'

So I'd check out the phones Gerard suggested

Indeed, 8mp just results in more noise with these cheap mobile cameras. More pixels, more work for the chip. 5mp is the top for me and I'm satisfied with the 3.2 I have now.

I know it is, but a good camera would be the only thing I'd be a bit picky about. my current one makes utter crap pictures.. but if you say 5mp would be quite enough already for a phone I'll believe you that.

    both of those look great!
only thing I'd be worried about concerning the nokia n82 would be the small buttons. at least they look pretty small on the pictures.

the samsung innov8 unfortunately goes beyond my 250€, but it's one awesome little gadget. hmm. I'll keep both in mind for sure, thanks! gotta discuss this with my donators lol.
  7. also, thanks chris and casper always good to hear some opinions first!
I'll lower my camera demands to 3-5mp then

  8. yea just went for it and got it cheap. Loving it mostly. Moving to an all plastic model after the fulll stainless steel of the E71 is a bit of an eye opener though. Can't fault it in any other department though

Yep, the materials are so-so but I agree with the rest you said.
