  2. HI i am a u2 fan for years now but i must get this from my chest, why doesnt anybody complain about the sound quality.... because it really sucks in those stadiums lik eveltins arena or a few years ago in amsterdam.
    Doesnt anybody care or is this the commerce that walks in.
    For me ive seen many tours now and monday in gelsenkirchen for me was the last....snif snif,
    HIs voice sounded like he sniffed a balloon with a little bit of helium if you catch my meaning
  3. It could be part of the echoey effect and delays between speakers that create that type effect. The other thing I have noticed that especially in the last 2 tours, is that seems to be some type of dynamic range compression on the sound, I can mostly hear it on Bono's voice and larry's drums, but I could be wrong.
  4. If you arent ask the mixing desk then the sound isnt gonna be great. Of 5 shows ive saw this tour, only 1 has boasted good sound and that was Croke1. GA, center, few rows back from the catwalk. Edges guitar lacked punch on the big hitters but overall it was very good. In Barcelona though I was at the tip of the catwalk and could barely make out a single note Edge played and Bono sounded like he was on helium. Hit or miss

    reminds me of Barcelona, I stood at the bridge on Adam's side, front row inner circle, and I almost couldn't hear Edge's guitar at all, that was weird. and Bono sounded like he wasn't hitting one single note right -- which I found proven wrong, of course, when I listened to the bootleg later on. but it really seems to matter where you are and how the sound "hits" you.

  7. What puzzles me is surely they know all this? Surely they test where each of the speakers are, the various mixes, etc in the first place? because I can't work out why repeatedly they get the sound wrong in various areas of the stadium.

    U2gigs got a shot of Joe standing at the very back of the stadium in Gothenburg checking out the souhd during Snow Patrol.

    Another point about Barcelona. Snow Patrol sounded amazing where I was but U2 didnt. Drums, bass, vocals and guitars were all perfect for Snow Patrol. They were even louder
  9. Well it could just be the mix then. To be fair, it's very noticeable on the last 2 tours. The thing with dynamic range compression is it can make the quieter sounds louder to be the same loudness as the higher sounds, so they are all the same sound level, which can cause distortion and all sorts. I can especially hear it on Bono's voice and larry's drums, which in turn can drown out Edge's guitar or Adam's bass. It's a neat trick but it can totally ruin the sound.
  10. I have to agree . The sound was not good ! I liked the concert . but high up in the stadium . the sound .. not good !

    It's always like that there. Always.

    This time they tried to make it better by hanging black carpets or whatever from the ceilings, and it was indeed a bit better than in 2005 where you couldn't hear much at all.

    Still, this arena is simply not made for rock concerts. I don't know if it would be better if they opened up the roof, but the air would definitely be better, it was so hot and sticky in there and people were smoking all the time. The arena is not, and has never been a good venue for concerts. Still they keep coming back to that venue.

    It's hard to find a football stadium where the sound is good. In our stadium, there are a lot of concerts, but the sound isn't really great. The echo is such that you think there's another band playing in the back of the stadium.

    Stadiums usually are for sports, not concerts.

    It also depends where you are standing.

    In Milan it was very good, not too loud. In Gelsenkirchen, it was simply too loud. I thought Snow Patrol were worse, because they were even louder. In Berlin, Snow Patrol were also too loud but U2 were fine.

  12. I went to schalke knowing that the sound might not be good, but was positively surprised when snow patrol/u2 started - I thought both sounded great. just had a good spot, I guess (catwalk, first row, left side).
