  1. Ok, to be fair, I'm not absolutely sure but if you play guitar you look like you're playing the guitar, and that moment Edge was not I've tried to find some video on youtube, pointing Edge during the Magnificent intro, but could't find any yet. Still looking.

    .. and checked the other part with arpeggio - just before the solo, from the last three shows with bootlegs. During the promo tour Edge played it live too, if he actually played it - f.e. he was not at the Fordham show, so there was no guitar at all then. The results: Chorzow - no arpeggio, Zagreb I - no arpeggio, Zagreb II - clear arpeggio, ended a little while before the start of the solo. So for me Edge plays it.
  2. The alternatives to backing tracks are playing songs with just the four of them (which would inevitably mean Bono getting more involved in the instrument side) or, like most of the major artists, getting a few people on stage to aid them out.

    Both of which I think would take away from the show. Would we have ever been given the eccentrically brilliant Mofo, Lemon etc.

    The problem with getting others is that much of what U2 is about is that it's the same 4 guys who have been together since the late 70's. There hasn't been a personnel change (as with say the Rolling Stones). U2 is 4 guys from the same school in Dublin who've grown old together and always been their own thing. It just wouldn't be the same with others on stage with them.

    Quite happy to have a backing track in it so long as the rest of them are doing their jobs live.

    He was at Fordham lol? Unless there's a very convincing double and/or hologram to replace him!?!

    I've just checked Amsterdam, and it looks like he's playing the arpeggio there. OK for me. But I'll remain with my doubt if he played it in Chorzow, or maybe stopped playing it at some moment of the tour

    - this is Magnificent from Milan I, and a clear view of Edge playing the arpeggio, although he starts playing it while the riffs are still on the air. Loop machine ?

    Well if Bono's guitar would be plugged in I'm sure more things would be possible. I dont expect him to play like The Edge. But if he can do a bit of rythmguitar, The Edge may have some time for more melodic stuff. Also we know The Edge and Bono can play piano. Lots of stuff possible

    Still think Terry should be ON stage instead of beneath it though.

  10. Terry was on stage during VT when he played Original Of The Species for the few times. As far as I remember, he wasn't very happy with that. He may want to keep hidden.

    Indeed - we may assume that any backing musicians want to be on stage but perhaps they don't? That said, Elbow's backing musicians looked like they had a pretty good time (not to mention they looked rather splendid ) on Friday night.

    They also use something during Ultra Violet. Small drum backing track.
