U2 - Stand Up Comedy

  1. I've read people's comments about the pitch being too high for Bono to do every night, but I just feel that it's the same as Breathe. I can hear in the latest shows that he's struggling to hit the note on 'need' and 'breathe' in the chorus like he did in Barcelona and Milan.

    I don't think that the pitch of the song is the problem (unless someone tells me they've got inside knowledge on the band's decision). Therefore why not pick it? When I first listened to the album this track stood out and it still does for me. I think it could have been a fantastic opener.

    Shame.

    I think it still might get a guernsey as a rotator or a special live track in a Fast Cars-Original of the Species-Ground Beneath Her Feet kind of way.

    And we all know how terrible those song were (and are). Except for Beneath her Feet maybe.
  4. Continuing the discussion from the NLOTH general discussion thread:

    Does anyone else thik Stand Up Comedy would be a good song if it weren't for the cringe inducing ending (i.e the "god is evolution" and "soul rockin' people" bits )

    I like the first two verses a lot, have a great groove to them and the guitar riff is possibly the coolest on the album.
    But the last part of the song just spoils it for me.
    They should always end songs well (even if the start is crap) rather than begin well and end badly, its a problem some of their other songs have as well.

    I can't say I agree. I love this song so much. I just think it's so groovy and funky and would make a good single if they made an equally groovy and funky video.

  7. lol i really do not understand whats so bad about this song. everyone seems to hate it. I think its one of the better songs on the album.


  8. You don't like any bits? Not even the first verse or riffs? Or how Edge harmonises on the "stand up"s?
  9. it's a great song, especially the end 'riff', like it very much.
    I hear some influence of Skids/Big Country in that end, with the guitar being a bit Stuart Adamsonesque and the HA-HA shouting

    Perhaps a remaining of them recording The Saints Are Coming...

    But, SUC is a great tune overall, as said: Jimmy Paige meets Stuart Adamson.

    Could have been worse...
  12. Its not crap, they made worse but they also made a lot better songs. Nevertheless they should try it live.
