  1. Some people suggested that's extra backing vox too, but I'm fairly sure the backing track (if nothing else) provides a small amount of synth. backing or something. Needless to say, I think we're all agreed that there's some backing track involved somewhere
  2. As for Terry and backing musicians. Why is it even a problem. The fact is, the majority of folks at a show came to see U2 (Adam, Bono, Edge and Larry) and not some other person or three playing backing parts.

    As for backing tracks... fun to hear some gripe and pine for the 'old' days. You mean PRE-The Unforgettable Fire? U2 have used backing tracks for songs since The Unforgettable Fire tour.

    Nothing wrong with opinions. I get it. Some think backing tracks are cheating. And purists go as far as to then say: Why a track and not another musician. And some go further and insist but if you DO have another musician you MUST have them on stage.

    But when those go into name-calling or negative chatter about the band, that gets a bit odd and annoying. Is it not U2's choice to be U2 how they see fit? Is it not their choice to perform the tunes as best as they see fit?

    In the end, to me, it doesn't matter. The tracks are made by the band. So if they choose to use some for the show than so be it. U2 have been U2 in some fashion since 1976. And they have been making records since 1979 (U2-3). And in 30 years... They've done a pretty good job at 'being U2'.

  4. Agreed and with the birds at the start of Unknown Caller were really good cuz it sounded like the studio version which is my favourite from NLOTH. Also the bit of like spiritual singing between Crazy remix and SBS was lovely to hear, it sounded amazing. Bad wasn't played last night but that and WOWY have backing tracks and they make the song. COBL too with the Piano

    People know U2 use backing tracks and stuff and if they are that bothered they dont have to watch.

  7. Guitars, vocals, bass and drums are always played live!!! The rest of the sound is an estra, and for me, it's ok if they use sequencers.

  10. UTEOTW and Ultraviolet have shakers/rattles going.

    The only thing that bothers me is how they keep the extra guys out of sight with no acknowledgement and the fact they use click tracks on things that REALLY do not need them (SBS,IALW).


  11. Crazy Tonight has quite a bit of the band playing their instruments. Listen to Edge's guitar for the jangly delays. The hugeness of the sound is his mastery of delays and reverbs. Even in Magnificent, different parts of the song have different delay times with pitch shifted feedback delays to give the guitar a 'steel drum' type sound. For Crazy Tonight, it's the same way, $$$$$ worth of playing with technologically advanced AND vintage guitar effects.

    Moment of Surrender is where his Line 6 (if i recall correctly) looping really shines. During the "whoooooa-oh oh's" you can hear him play a strummed chord, then a couple of picked notes til it repeats. He plays it slightly different every night, and every time the delays sound just like he played right then and there.
    The loop is about 27 seconds long.
