Hey guys, read this, my friend and I were discussing music( he's the rap guy ), and we begun talking about rock music and he said the song he liked the song "One", and I said, "great great song, it's a personal favourite of mine" and I added " Did you like any other song from U2?" and his answer made me think about going Patrick Bateman on him: "Dunno much about U2, the song I heard aired on MTV and it featured Mary J Blige, wow she has a great voice, better than the other guy next to her"

    I went ballistic, screaming at him!!! I completely hate that version, it's a musical rape, Bono is way below his normal singing capacity and she is just......fucking the song up, screaming and screaming, she sounded like a teenager with a bad attitude, I just can't stand the very first sound of that version

    What do you think?Let's spread the hate towards this version or do you actually like it?

  5. Always maintained that I like it, still will. Prefer U2-only versions but I've got nothing against this one. The live renditions with her aren't that great but I have a soft-spot for the studio version.

    Sure we've already got plenty of topics like this though so chances are this'll get closed soon enough I'm afraid lol.

  7. I love the version of ONE with Mary J. She expressed a lot of emotion in her vocals and performance so I think the version is very on point with a band like U2.

  9. I actually really like this version. I think MJB is quite talented too. Obviously I prefer the original, but I think this version is cool and it introduces U2 to another musical audience. If you look at the tracklisting of her album she has so much range on there. I mean who else duets with U2 on one track and The Game and 50 Cent on another. That's pretty damn cool if you ask me.

    Agreed, she is a talented singer and I feel she has a great voice, and she lends another angle to the song which is already fairly multi-faceted. I'm not so fussed about the R'n'B genre but for me it's a very soulful rendition.

    Disagree even moreso - the Cash duet is fantastic in my opinion and I think you might find a lot of people agreeing too. But that's not to dismiss your opinion, merely lend an alternative point of view.
