1. just got back from cardiff

amazing show, amazing atmosphere, emotional night for bono it seemed. totally amazing as usual

but i preferred wembley 1 for a few reasons - the main one being that i was down on the pitch at wembley and seated at cardiff.. the two just dont compare but at least i got to see it from a different angle. the atmosphere in the stands just didn't feel right when certain people wouldn't even get on their feet for streets!!! also because of where i was seated the sound really wasn't too good. i was amazed when i read reviews of wembley on here and people were saying the sound was terrible - for me wembley was prob the best sounding outdoor gig i've heard. i guess i found out yesterday that where you stand can make a massive difference. and finally the fact they chopped the top off the spire really p*ssed me off!! i know its only a small part of the stage but i really missed the mirroball beaming down on everyone! but what annoyed me most was the fact they had obviously reduced the height so they could close the roof and then left it open making the whole operation pointless!!? oh and the fact they left the lights on in the stands through the whole gig spoiled the atmosphere a bit and rendered bono's "lets turn this place into the milky way" moment pretty much useless!

so thats my kind of 'anti review'!
  2. Haha, it's all about perspective isn't it?!!
From where iwas, the few stand lights that were on added tothe atmosphere as we could see you lot dancing/clapping etc. And I'm sure during MoS it was totally dark. Ahwell ....
  3. My 4th show on the tour and totally amazing, although I agree with the comments about the Spike and the lights. The effect was lost where we sat, but overall, it was a super show, and look forward to any boots! Took 8 hours to get back to Nottingham, which was fun, due to the gridlock all around Cardiff. The atmosphere around the city before the show was just the best. We found a pub that blasted out loads of early U2...i was deaf before we even got to the stadium Someone asked if I'd ever go to Cardiff again, after the nightmare drive home...only to see U2!!!!
  4. About the spike. From GA it was irrelevant, but that's by the by.

I suspect they left it off for 2 reasons -

    1) seemingly it is damaged from prev indoor gig (Gelsenkirchen)

    2) They wanted the flexibility of roof open or closed depending on soundcheck and/or weather forecasts.

Once the decision was made to leave it off they couldn't very well dismantle the whole thing just to put a bloody mirrorball on top.

I loved the fact the roof was open. It was closed for Vertigo and this was so much better (in many ways, but that's a different story...)
  5. Hi Chaps,

Back from a great weekend in Cardiff yesterday afternoon - enjoyed the show - my 6th of this leg, having seen the first show in Barcelona which seems an age ago it has been nice to see how the show has evolved.

Cardiff crowd was excellent - really up for it, the show itself was pretty good - though have to say Bono did seem to be struggling at times. He seemed to be struggling at the start of Crazy Tonight - forgetting some words, and also Bad he missed his cue a couple of times.

Nice long intro into Streets was a highlight - but overall the show did not reach any of the heights of Wembley 2.

Was also lucky enough to get a backstage tour before the show which was cool - had a walk on the stage, a look in the sound desk, and in the production area where every one was really friendly.

    What a great summer - thanks U2

i took loads of pictures of the show too but the digital camera went back up to my parents so i will have to wait a couple of days for them. not sure how they turned out tho - i was experimenting with different settings throughout the show
